Looks like there will, indeed, be a PS3 price cut in the coming days. A circular has leaked, from FYE, that shows a $100 price cut. That puts the 160GB PS3 at $399 and the 80GB PS3 at $299.
Those prices, if true, look pretty fair. Had the system launched at those prices, man, how different things would be.
Also, and independently, mind you, K-Mart has started running an ad on its Web site that says “The Rumors Are Reality. New Low Price & A New Exciting PS3.” Yup: PS3 Slim for $299 on August 24. Time will tell!
I should also point out that this is still technically a rumor—Sony hasn’t come out and said, “Look, we’re cutting prices!” or “Look, PS3 Slim!” just yet.
Man, this is a WELL DESERVED price drop.
newer models of ps3 have less features.
everytime when a newer model is released,
one or more features is removed from the original specification.
thus the cost of the console itself is less.
which it should be.
since the launch model (specification), ps3 had ps2 compatibility,
flash card reader, x-number of usb ports, etc…
and only god knows what was in originally release.
but now, all the above is gone.
ps3 slim can’t run other OS, such as linux.
so the reduce in price merely translate to taking out components.
since games run on the hard drive now days,
this underminds blu ray.
if blu ray is fast, why install on hard drive?
blu ray is extra cost on a game system which we don’t need.
if they take out blu ray, put on dvd drive in, we won’t have to pay for blu ray.
there are no games out there that take 25 or 50 GB at this time.
most games are like 7 GB or more.
just use 2 or 3 disk to store the game!!!!
the god of war games on ps2 were over 8gb and it is still early in the product lifespan (look at the difference between ff7 and ff9 for ps2). even if they cut the blue ray to make it cheaper you would be stuck buying a new system when the game technology starts making full use of their potential.
I am sure a lot of kids are going to want it for Christmas.
i heard about this drop too! i sure hope its real because i dob’t want the slim, it looks ugly and seems there will be less features, im definetely saving up for an 80 gig price drop, sony’s sales may get larger than the xbox 360s which will worry microsoft a lot, i heard they are dropping the elite price to $300, haha its a big competition
