In spite of Sony’s best attempts to conceal it, evidence of a PS3 Slim 250GB version has been uncovered at the FCC’s website. This larger capacity version will most likely be released this fall, after the buzz has died down around the recently announced 120GB version.
Sony went so far as to file the documents under the name of a shell company, “Sand Dollar Enterprise” — an attempt to get a different FCC ID on the device, in order to make it harder for people searching the FCC database to find it. Expect to see a formal announcement from Sony this fall after the initial buzz has died down from the 120GB model.
Nothing on pricing or availability of course, and I’m assuming this one won’t run Linux either (sorry Scott).

He means to conceal the slim 250 GB. the 120 GB has been confirmed.
Will this drive the price of the regular PS3 down?

I have a 500GB i put in mine myself. If you can replace the drive in it still it wouldn’t matter to me. I’d just end up putting a bigger one in anyway.
newer models of ps3 have less features over time, and the cost of the console itself is less.

since the launch model, ps3 had ps2 compat, flash card reader, extra usb ports.
but now, it’s all gone.
ps3 slim can’t run other OS, such as linux.
so the reduce in price is just taking out components.
and games run on the hard drive, this shows blu ray drive is slow to load games.
and u run games off hard drive anyway.
if they take out blu ray, put on dvd and can reduce cost even more.
there are no games out there that take 25 or 50 GB at this time.
most games are like 7 GB or more.
So you are saying that the PS3 slim will have less features then the PS3 (2005), and that the ps3 slim 250GB will be a smaller price by having less components.
My advice: Bye a old one if thats what they’re doing.
actually uncharted 2, mgs4, ratchet and clank and resistance were all filled on 25gb discs so bam!
Whoa! That’s cool 250GB PS3. I hope that PS3 slim will still play PS2 games coz as far as I heard, it won’t play them. Oh well, I hope PS3 gets to be released soon before Aion Online does.

… no one needs to wait for the 250GB – just purchase the 250GB HDD and pop it in the 120GB PS3 Slim.
All I can say is; thank you Sony for including THAT blue screw again. I was personally expecting them to make it harder to take out for the new PS3 so that more people would just go out and buy the overpriced 250GB. Cynical, meeee? No! :D

I work in argos (uk) and it is retailing at £284.99. of course, with my 10% discount, it is only slightly more expensive, £6-£7 than the 120GB model. Bring on Ebay and some nice profit!!! haha! O.J. If i sell it for profit, ill prob get fired. rather not risk it!
Does anyone know if they upgraded the speed on the Bluray, maybe to 4x instead of 2x?
what is the piont of making a new model with less componets and if they don’t make it faster again there is no piont right or am i right?
