James Cameron’s highly anticipated Sci-Fi movie Avatar (to be released on December 18) has been getting a lot of hype in the last few months, and now Fox gives us the trailer for the movie. But judging from this 2-minute teaser trailer, Avatar will look pretty cartoony/video game-ish (this is my impression at least).
Apple has been promoting the trailer release for a few weeks now, but over 30 minutes in, is incapable of uploading it (it was due out 10am Eastern today, see the screenshot I took at exactly that time).
But I’ve been lurking on the imdb board for Avatar and dug out a good quality alternative. Please watch the trailer in French (not a big deal) for the time being. I’ll change it to the US version once that one becomes available (the Apple trailer link for Avatar is here).

Looks pretty awesome to me. But I’m a sucker for CG animation.
It’s not bad or anything, but reminded me too much of Kameo, the XBox game, and Halo.
Maybe the 3D effect will add some juice to the visuals. This isn’t really a “conventional” movie.
Still looking for a working US trailer by the way…
Everything I’ve read about this movie says the CGI trots into the uncanny valley.
Guy’s I usually dont care for Fantasy flicks like this but it looks interesting I might take a gander at it when it comes out.

I’m usually not big on these CG animation movies but knowing Cameron is behind this, it’s definitely worth a look when it releases. It’s the week of my birthday, so maybe I’ll have someone take me to see it. http://ziggytek.com/

I agree-very videogame looking. Probably amazing to anyone who doesn’t play/follow what video game developers have been doing the couple years, though.
The movie is said to have been thought of by Cameron 14 years ago, when it was not technically possible to make it.
When I see the result today, I think that Cameron should have waited some more years, as it really looks like shit.
I am not talking here about the story, characters or else, but about visual rendering : CGI should not be distinguished from the movie itself, but here it is really awful…
I read some posts saying “it looks like a video game”. But what they means is “it looks like a badly rendered movie” (what video games still are for some years yet).
If it’s entirely CGI I thought it looked pretty good. Some parts look like a video game but other parts had me wondering if those were real people. The aliens don’t look that great. I think just because of their design and their eyes are large like cartoon characters.
This looks pretty meh to me.
The CGI looks good to me, particularly the way the hair is lit, I just don’t like the designs of the aliens and I’m not particularly interested in “epic battle” fantasy stories, so I’ll probably give it a miss in theatres and just wait to rent it on BluRay, or on DVD if I don’t have a BluRay player by the time it’s out.
