Are you surprised that Sony is putting the kibosh on backwards compatibility once and for all?
Well, are you?

I sure wish Sony would stay consistent with the dang PS3. I waited till they went down to $400 and now going down again. I’m not surprised they would go down but when they start adding and removing features is what irks me. Just my .02¢
I would *love* backwards compatibility. Its a small travesty they didn’t include it, and I still find it hard to believe they let Microsoft outdo them in this regard. It would seriously double the amount of time I play PS3, and I’d probably use their online services more at that point too.
Come on, Sony. Release the emulation software to us and score a big (much needed) win in the PR department. All your fans will be delighted, it will open a new market for the PS3, and good times will be had by all.
Who cares? App store.
I don’t really care for the backwards compatibility. I don’t even have any of my PS1/PS2 games anymore, and even if I did I doubt I’d play them. I have a hard time playing old games. I can’t get over how bad they look (graphic wise), though that’s obviously not the developer’s fault, it was just the technology at the time. I like looking at the future and seeing all the pretty games…but that’s me.
First of all I want to say this and let it be heard at the top of CG Mountain!
All of you people that complain about backwards compatability and high price and blah blah blah I want to drop a big atomin nuking “F” BOMB on all of you.
I bought my PS3 at launch 599.99 I got the 60GB model that basically has a PS2 integrated into and I am super happy I did. Yes it was a lot of money but I have had everything that all you whiners are complaining about since day one.
I didnt sit on the sidelines waiting and hoping for the rpice to come down to jump in. See real gamers and adults that dont live paycheck to paycheck or live at home with their parents can afford these luxuries. Now you cheapskates decided that 360 is the way to go and blah blah blah.
CUT THE RIFF RAFF and get real. You missed your train and now your stuck walking the sidelines waiting for the perfect PS3. I got news for you it came and went. If you missed it cuz you wanted more or something better than to bad. If you missed it cuz your a cheapskate that lives with mommy and daddy then to bad. Stop complaining about it and do something about it whether it means just settling for your 360 or actually looking high and low for a 60GB unit.
DEAL WITH IT! Pe@ce! B*TCHES!
I never liked sony and never will. And im VERY happy that I do.
Also, ƒUÇk ¥0u
lol feelings got hurt (truth hits hard) go back to your room.
The Ps3’s launch price was outrageous, Sony were idiots for releasing it so expensive.
And removing BC is like Apple suddenly removing MP3 support from their nest batch of iPods.
Sony SEVERAL TIMES reassured that BC was important…….. then out of the blue removed it.
This post is nothing more than you jerking off to the fact that you bought one at launch and are now desperately trying to justify the puchase for $600.
So….
We are supposed to pay 600+$ for something that does nearly the same as a Xbox 360 and hates me for wanting it?
Well Kulsar if you knew your tech what wa snew at that time?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
Really? you dont know?
Blue-Ray and how much was a standalone BR Player at that time?
Really,you dont know again?
So dont try and use the 360 is the same line. Like I siad PS3 isnt for any chump. It’s for those looking for a new and different experience while retaining its backwards capabilities (atleast for me).
I didnt just buy a next GEN console I purchased an HD player with a web browser a giant gaming library thanks to it being backwards compatible and now it is starting to kick ass in the gaming sector. For the record though Im a PC gamer and PS3 gamer second. My rig can pretty much smoke anything out there. But thats a conversation for a different topic.
Well JOSH,
Why should I watch Blu-Ray’s?
The Movies and Videos I watch are great quality, without having to put them on 50gb Discs.
Leaving that out.
What is so new and different about the “PS3 experience”?
For me, personally, there are 3-4 good PS3 exclusives, that I would want to play. Sry, but I’m not gonna pay 600$ for that. (For me to buy a normal Fat PS3, it will have to be 300$ in my country. But here it is and will be about 420-430$ AFTER the price cut.)
So:
Come again?
kulsar unless you own an hdtv I suppose your right, standard DVD’s do look fine. LOL, on a similar subject DVD’s look even better on the PS3 granted any good upconverting DVD player can probably do that as well.
I am sorry you couldnt afford one then or decided not to buy one then. My original rant was that people complain all day about the same stuff in regards to PS3 and the stuff they complain about are things that my unit was capable of doing since launch.
By the way the PS3 doesnt hate you for wanting it it just knows it can do better.
Why would anyone want to play PS2 games on a PS3 when you can play PS3 games. Sure there are some good ones, but this can be solved through emulation or if someone goes out and buys PS2.
Personally, I’d like to see a good PS2 – PC emulator.
Because people are moving to HDTVs, and a PS2-BC PS3 can upscale games as well as provide ner infinit ememorycards by creating virtual ones on the internal HDD.
That and Sony promised us it would have BC then removed it.
Oh consoles….
Backwards compatibility would have been a nice feature. As many people still have the ps/2. I don’t get how it has back-backwards compatibility with the ps1?? But i still may get one for the blueray player and the exclusive games.
I was one that purchased the 60gb model that was backwards compatible… I actually went out of my way to get it since it had been discontinued (I waded through the treacherous bogs of eBay for one). I’ve owned it for over a year and I’ve yet to put in any PS2 games.
Honestly, it’s a great feature, but it doesn’t really get use for me…
Who give a crap? Like really? I doubt many people if any at all play ps2 games if they have a ps3. if you do then use your effing ps2.
I bought the 120gb ps3 when the price his $499. All my ps2 game are compatible. Do I play them on my ps3? Eff no, the games are old and outdated so who gives a crap. But like the other guy that commented I spent the extra money and got the extra support.
Regardless though to date hands down the ps3 is a wayyyyyyyyyyyy better deal than the xbox. Why? No RROD’s, super quality build, built in wifi, blu ray player and true 1080p output. Not this upscaled xbox crap. The only reason I own an xbox is because Microsoft decided to user their bazillionz of dollars and buy up as many game makers as possible. They knew the ps3 was stronger so they released their product a year in advance to eff over Sony and rake in the game developers. Not to mention the superior system Sony uses takes more work to create games. Take any ps3 exclusive and compare to a 360 exclusive and the difference of quality is night and day. Players have to stop buying crap quality (myself included) and put the money where the quality is and maybe other companies would get the idea.
“Who give a crap? Like really? I doubt many people if any at all play ps2 games if they have a ps3. if you do then use your effing ps2.”
Can a PS2:
1. Upscale games to HD
2. Provide near infinite memorycard space
3. Come standard with a wireless controller
4. Not take up any extra ports on your TV that the PS3 uses
5. Not take up any extra power ports that the PS3 uses
6. Take up the same space as the PS3?
No? Thought so, then theres the whole “BC is important” BS from Sony that they suddenly turned around on and took out.
“I bought the 120gb ps3 when the price his $499. All my ps2 game are compatible. Do I play them on my ps3? Eff no, the games are old and outdated so who gives a crap.”
Yeah, you’re right, who plays old games? I mean, the Virtual Console on the Wii which has 20 year old games is doing just terrible…… oh wait, no, you’re an idiot and just because you don’t play older goes does not apply to the rest of the gaming population.
“Regardless though to date hands down the ps3 is a wayyyyyyyyyyyy better deal than the xbox. ”
Hands down, that is 100% opinion.
“No RROD’s”
Right, it has YLODs instead.
“super quality build”
Prove this, how do you define super quality build? Oh? You can’t? Its just BS you made up? Thought so.
“blu ray player and true 1080p output”
Funny thing about that.
1. My 360 can output 1080p video either from it’s video store or form netflix, try again.
2. My 360 can output GAMEPLA in 1080p, it can upscale any game ot 1080p, the PS3 cannot, you know, games? The main reason to GET A GAME CONSOLE?
“The only reason I own an xbox is because Microsoft decided to user their bazillionz of dollars and buy up as many game makers as possible. ”
Oh God, another “MS buys all their exclusives” idiot.
FACT: There is no proof that MS pays off developers, HOWEVER, Sony has flat out said that if a publisher makes their game PS3 exclusive they will give them a “bonus”. Sony is fucking BRIBING people to make games PS3 exclusive.
“They knew the ps3 was stronger so they released their product a year in advance to eff over Sony and rake in the game developers.”
Stronger……. riiiiiight, thats why its 3rd place.
The Sega Saturn launche defore the Ps1/N64 and the Dreamcast launched before the Ps2/GC……… and got clobbered. First to market means Jack.
“Not to mention the superior system Sony uses takes more work to create games.”
Hint: thats a BAD THING.
Oh, and prove that the PS3 is superior, with actual FACTS, not “better build, better colors, better fanboys, better crap that I made up” bullshit.
“Take any ps3 exclusive and compare to a 360 exclusive and the difference of quality is night and day.”
Precisely, anybody knows that, almost any 360 version of a game is better than the PS3 version.
Look at Ghostbusters for example.
“Players have to stop buying crap quality (myself included) and put the money where the quality is and maybe other companies would get the idea.”
Yeah I know, but I don’t think people will ever stop buying Sony products.
Akuma you noob are you bummed cuz you dont own one or because you do own one? Ellaborate, oh and im replying via my PS3 web browser on my gorgeous LED TV. I woulda done this on a 360 but oops no web browser yikes besides it might turn red on me. LMAO!
The IQ is weak in this one…
Cyber Akuma:
1. My 360 can output 1080p video either from it’s video store or form netflix, try again.
2. My 360 can output GAMEPLA in 1080p, it can upscale any game ot 1080p, the PS3 cannot, you know, games? The main reason to GET A GAME CONSOLE?

1. I wouldn’t necessarily rave about Netflix on the 360. The movies look like sh*t. And it’s pretty sad what they try to pass as “HD” content. But, you’d know this if you owned an HDTV.
2. At launch, one of the first games I bought for the PS3 was Ridge Racer 6. 1080P resolution.
If all you want to do is play games, then perhaps the 360 was the right choice for you. I bought my PS3 for the games and EVERYTHING ELSE it can do.
Don’t get me wrong, I love me some Gears, Fable, and an occasional game of Halo. That’s why I bought a 360. But, you don’t have to make things up to get your point across.
err, ridge racer 7
“I wouldn’t necessarily rave about Netflix on the 360. The movies look like sh*t. And it’s pretty sad what they try to pass as “HD” content. But, you’d know this if you owned an HDTV.”
WRONG, have you ever used it? They look pretty damn good, especially the HD content. Pretty much everyone I know who thinks netflix looks terrible has never used the service.
“At launch, one of the first games I bought for the PS3 was Ridge Racer 6. 1080P resolution. ”
Id say less than about 5% of the PS3’s library supports 1080p, while there are more 1080p games on the 360, unlike the PS3 the 360 can upscale ANY game to 1080p anyway.
“WRONG, have you ever used it? They look pretty damn good, especially the HD content. Pretty much everyone I know who thinks netflix looks terrible has never used the service.”
As a matter of fact, I do. BIG difference in picture quality from HD channels on my cable satellite provider and watching Blu-rays on my PS3. That’s why I say netflix looks like crap.
“Id say less than about 5% of the PS3’s library supports 1080p, while there are more 1080p games on the 360, unlike the PS3 the 360 can upscale ANY game to 1080p anyway.”
Again with the lies. Just because YOU say so, doesn’t make it so.
“As a matter of fact, I do. BIG difference in picture quality from HD channels on my cable satellite provider and watching Blu-rays on my PS3. That’s why I say netflix looks like crap.”
Then you must be blind, because Netflix looks far better than anything on TV. Yes, of course it isn”t as high end as blu-ray, but there is a key difference, I cannot pay about $10 a month to have nearly every blu-ray disk in exsistance magically appear in my room.
You are severely missing the point if you are trying to compare netflix to bluray, and it IS better than over-the-air cable and pretty damn good quality on its own.
“Again with the lies. Just because YOU say so, doesn’t make it so.”
Ummm, what? Just because *I* say so? What the hell?
This is a known FACT.
The vast majority, I would say defiantly over 95%, of both the 360 and PS3’s library cannot natively run in 1080p. However, the 360 can upscale any game to 1080p, the PS3 cannot.
I have both hooked up to the same screen! The PS3 constantly switches between 1080p mode when im in the XMB to 720p mode when I start just about any game.
My 360 stays in 1080p mode the entire time.
“Then you must be blind, because Netflix looks far better than anything on TV. Yes, of course it isn”t as high end as blu-ray, but there is a key difference, I cannot pay about $10 a month to have nearly every blu-ray disk in exsistance magically appear in my room.”
The instant queue selection is horrible – mostly old movies I don’t want to see or have already seen. The “HD” content, while slightly better, is NOT HD quality. That was my point, not how convenient it was, how inexpensive it is, the awesome blu-ray selection, etc. To each his own, I guess.
“The vast majority, I would say defiantly over 95%, of both the 360 and PS3’s library cannot natively run in 1080p. However, the 360 can upscale any game to 1080p, the PS3 cannot.”
Upscaling to 1080p and a true 1080p resolution are not the same thing. I had hoped more developer would run more games at native 1080p for both systems. They look overwhelmingly better.
Rofl… that was a good laugh
getting back on topic.
I am very outraged and dissapointed that Sony has yet to include ps2 Backwards compatibility.
Sony is either really greedy or really ignorant for not including PS2 Backwards Compatibility in their new PS3 slim model. “it does everything” is the new slogan…yeah, except play Sony made PS2 games!!! wtf? This whole thing BC thing is BS. Sony’s PR department are a bunch of lier’s anyway, they deny until you buy. I personally will not buy a Ps3 until BC is back on the table.
