Apple’s been gettin’ a good bit of grief for the Snow Leopard box art since it officially went on sale this morning. We’re in the “Who cares? We’re all going to buy it anyway” boat, but we’ve gotta admit it: it sort of looks like it was slapped together at the last minute. By a kid. Oh, and he was wearing a blindfold.
At least, the standard edition does. Check out the box art for the server edition up above – the difference is small, but the results are grand. A bit of cropping and some creative framing, and bam: it’s a whole new box. It’s still not the ominous X we’re used to, but it’s a big step up.
What do you think: Upgrade? Downgrade? Don’t care?
[Thanks David!]

I’m glad to not see a big ass x for a change but the result of this design hell no they could have done miles better.
why do we need both anyway just either go by version number or the animal not both
Don’t care, what’s in the box is what counts.
It’s a box. In a week it’ll be in the bin.
I think the box should be plated in gold and platinum.
I don’t really care. I just want what’s inside the box anyway, so it doesn’t matter to me whether or not the Leopard’s face shows or not. http://ziggytek.com/
it should have been an X with a white background or a white X. At the very least keep with the past box art tradition! I could have come up with something better than this (and would have done it for cheaper).
That box is UGLY! I’m cancelling my preorder.
I guess I don’t understand how anyone could pin a high res picture of a Snow Leopard as ugly.
You’ve got the classic Apple logo and Myriad Pro font contrasted against the softest white to blue-gray gradient, and a slender, yet killer, yet majestic animal.
Tech meets organic. It’s sweet.
The box is fine. It’s a beautiful high-res picture. The X was getting old. It makes you think, “wow I was expecting another X but here is a snow leopard, that really stands out.”
The box is fine, most importantly who the **** cares what the box looks like?
Its part of the green movement. The actual snow leopard is way more biodegradable than the X.
The software’s going to be great.
So Shutup Kuntz!!!!!!!
It’s funny that the author thinks a blindfolded kid can take a professional-looking, high-res picture of an animal most kids are scared of.
