This doesn’t look like it’s advertised yet – it’s not linked on the NewsDemon front page – but for a limited time you can get their unlimited plan with 20 connections for $10.95 a month.

I’ve been pricing these deals for a few days now and this is on par or better than most I’ve seen. Useful if you’ve been meaning to get a Usenet account so you can check out alt.fiction.slashfiction.harrypotter.snapeginnyweasly.

  • I get my 10mbit unlimited usenet deal for 8,51$
or 20 mbit unlimited for 9,95$
    30mbit then are 10,72$.
But you won’t get it in america.

  • Looks like they’ve come down to match Astraweb’s $11/mo plan:

    http://www.news.astraweb.com/specials/kleverig-11.html

Roughly the same retention at both, encryption, 20 connections, etc… so… pick at random!

    • not really. you get a free newsreader, higher retention with newsdemon.

here in atlanta, connection is faster with newsdemon as well.

      • you get marginally higher retention. the difference right now is ~10 days.

and if you only care about binaries (which most people who are willing to pay $11/mo do), you probably want to be using alt.binz or sabnzbd anyway.

        shrug.

        • i dunno mate, either of those are kinda weak. much like grabit, its got some basic features…but down the line, you probably want one with some added filters and features than these others provide.

personally, i like newsleecher the best. been using it since it came out i think. good stuff, but pricey. newsbin for cost conscious.

just like anything else really, you get what free buys you.

  • How safe do you feel they are. Give them credit card or paypal info?

  • They use the “extended validation” ssl certs on their sign up pages. You can tell by the little green bar in the address bar when you are on a secure page. This means their SSL cert provider (in this case Thawte.com) had to receive a LOT of information about this company including their Articles of Incorporation. I “think” they are the only usenet provider who does this. My company went through this and its a real pain.

Other than that, I know from general recollection that they have been around a long time.

  • Anyone know of a good tutorial on how to use these?

    • I’ve been using Easynews for the past 9 months. Very user-friendly service and no newsreader needed. They have a cool interface where you can search and preview files before downloading them. Good place to start.
