Video: Six-legged robo-bug Phasma

The second robot coming out of Japan today is pretty cool, too, even though it’s not as useful as the first: Phasma is its name, and it’s an insect-like mini robot that sports six legs and can be remote-controlled. Developed by a Tokyo-based design and engineering company called takram, Phasma’s main purpose is to imitate an insect’s movements.

The company says it knows the robo bug doesn’t look like an insect, but used stainless steel components and rubber joints to achieve a realistic animal-like effect when the thing starts moving.

The video below shows how Phasma dashes around. Don’t let the nice photos above fool you, the thing’s pretty ugly when in action. And it makes creepy sounds, too.
