damn right he is… and that says it all haha

these ads by apple are genius. imply everything wrong about the PC why saying/guaranteeing nothing about their own product.

truth is, in adverstiing, when push comes to shove and someones getting ready to buy a computer, they’re going to see a PC and see david putty/mr. hodge and a mac and think… mmmm, hot redhead/justin long.

and we all know who wins.

  • apple ads are great!

I use both and i do have to admit, even though apple crashes less, pc at least gives me an error message telling me what went wrong. the mac just freezes without even saying goodbye..
    oh, and mac-prices are retarded..

  • And an obvious jab at “Lauren” from Microsoft’s “Find a PC” commercials.

These ARE well played spots. But I still resent the smear as a happy PC user for many years. (I write this on the iMac that I very much enjoy, by the way.) There’s room for the blunt approach that Apple takes with these ads. . . but they won’t win my respect for it!

  • only in the world of applefanboys does the girl pick the short dorky nerd over the tall guy in a nice suit.

this isn’t the 1980s or even the 90s.

David Putty in a suit is still David Putty in a suit. just like a PC is still a PC, even with windows vists SP3 whoops Windows 7 new interface.

And just like a Mac with any OSX is still super in every way.

It’s hilarious how many people say… o, they’re still running the virus and it doesn’t crash…
fact is, its still true. The majority of PC users are still on XP.

  • Another well placed kick by Apple straight to the Microsoft! You gotta respect a winner who’s still willing to fight dirty. ;)

  • Wow, Apple is STILL trying the “dosen’t crash, dosen’t get viruses” angle?

    What is this, 1998?

    • It’s misleading, but Apple’s whole business is reliant on marketing. Reality is that most buy a mac purely for the brand, they don’t compare with other options unless it’s another Apple product. Even if Apple told their customers to f off, half of them would just start crying and camp out at the store until Apple let them in again. So Apple know that they have an audience that just needs to comfort themselves with a feeling of superiority, regardless of the facts to the contrary. So the ad isn’t actually trying to convince any new customers, it’s just reinforcing the ideas that are already held by it’s customers. So it kind of makes sense for them to be saying the same old thing over and over again. I guess it also works with new customers because everyone has experience of viruses, so ‘no viruses’ is a great selling point.

To me the ad doesn’t work though, primarily because it leaves me with the impression that the mac will be slower, less powerful, less capable – so when I find it costs twice the price the virus issue just fades into nothingness. Each to their own though, I presume it does work for some people.

    • Show me ONE (1) virus that targets mac please, I would really love to experience it on my mac for once.

      next time, troll smarter.

        • so you point me to a page which saids something like this: February 17, 2006… “Inqtana is a proof-of-concept worm, coded with a stop date of February 24th and confining its spread to very specific bluetooth addresses. In other words, Inqtana in its current form poses no real threat to Mac users.”

          try harder?

        • For some reason there’s a reply limit, but this is going back to zea:

after a 5 min search instead of a 5 second search (I admit I didn’t actually read through that previous link), here are a couple names of OS X viruses I found. Some dating back to 2006 (so I’m not sure how much of a threat they are now), but some as recent as January of this year.

          Worm: OSX/Tored.A
          Virus: OSXLeap-A or OSX/Oompa-A
          Trojan: OSX/DNSChanger
          Trojan-Downloader: OSX/Jahlev.A
          Trojan-PSW: OSX/PokerStealer.A
          Backdoor: OSX/iWorkServ.A
          Backdoor: Mac.Hovdy.a

      • Thing is, its easy to make the numbers lie.

Are there thousands of viruses? Yes

How many of these viruses are active and in the wild, and can acually effect a modern operating system? Like…. 3… maybe 4?

Seriously, there are hundreds of viruses in that database that were from the MS-DOS days before the internet even exsisted and depended on being shared through floppies.

And all it takes is a decent antivirus (many of which are FREE) to protect yourself. Unless you are completely stupid and click “yes I agree” to everything while under an admin account, in which case even a Mac or Linux machine can get infected by scripts.

And as for crashing, as I said, this isn’t 1998, Windows 2000 and above has been very stable, not to mention these are flat-out lies, MACOSX crashes on me more often than Windows 7 BETA does!

  • zea don’t you know how to use google or bing? Google’s first result is about a worm for OSX. I don’t feel like reading more into it because I don’t care about mac viruses. But maybe you should go look into it since you are “trolling smarter”

  • Elaine: What’s this? What happened to your fur?

David Puddy: I saw Jerry wearing his. He looked like a bit of a dandy. Check this out. 8 ball. You got a question, you ask the 8 ball.

Elaine: So you’re going to wear this all the time?

David Puddy: All signs point to yes.

  • When I saw the ad, I had a smile on my face. Just brought back David Puddy memories from Seinfeld. It’s another good ad from Apple. Nice way to poke fun at the Laptop hunter ads. http://ziggytek.com/

  • Zea:
Any of various simple submicroscopic parasites of plants, animals, and bacteria that often cause disease and that consist essentially of a core of RNA or DNA surrounded by a protein coat. Unable to replicate without a host cell, viruses are typically not considered living organisms.

    ;-)

  • I’m getting tired of Apple still running this dumb ads, I use both mac and windows and use mac because of security through obscurity. The more ads they put out claiming to be all safe and secure, more of a target they become. It will only take Charlie M. or someone like him one afternoon to find a vulnerability in Safari or quicktime and there goes the security on macs and iphones.

Apple should show off what macs can do better, bootup times, power saving, etc. I have a 2009 mac mini and love that thing. I bought it because of those reasons along with above mentioned security through obscurity.

Thanks apple for trying to ruin the good thing you got going.

    • Not even.

The only reason there aren’t Mac viruses everywhere is because NOBODY CARES!

Mac’s market share is far too small compared to Windows systems out there. The whole damn point of a virus is to SPREAD to as many systems as possible, so why would anybody target an OS that is on less than 10% of the systems?

Its security through obscurity, plane and simple.

Last time I read about a hacking contest, out of a mac, windows, and linux system, the first one to get hacked out of all three was a mac, it took seconds!

  • Puddy is still more likable than the Mac character.

I don’t really care for these Mac ads. I have no problem with Macs. People should use whatever they like. But the Mac ads consistently lie. Macs are no more secure than Windows and no less crash prone. By percentages I’ve had as many tech support calls about Macs as Windows.

At least Microsoft’s ads are true in saying that Macs are more expensive than PCs. Apple should show why they are more expensive (software, support, hardware, etc). I liked those Mac ads show how the new MacBooks were ‘greener’ and had long battery lives. Those made me want to get one. Seeing the sleek hardware of a Mac makes me want to go to the Apple store to check it out. Seeing Apple ads with lies in them makes me want to bash Apple and point out their lies to everyone I meet.

I don’t get why Apple can get away with these ads. Imagine if Toyota said in their ads that Hondas are involved in more car crashes and deaths.

Apple, point out your strengths don’t try to lower the competition to your level.

  • I don’t see how these bully tactic ads are winning over pc users while at the same time blatantly marketing the OS to idiots that can’t handle the scary windows boogieman. It’s like those “Bing” ads; you too stupid to GOOGLE ? Well give Bing a try.

  • I’m a Windows user and enjoy watching the Apple Ads. They’re funny. I hope that this renewed competition can bring about positive and note-worthy changes on BOTH OSes.

Can’t wait for the ChromeOS Ads to kick in…

Agree with the user that said: “Puddy is still more likable than the Mac character.” The Mac character seemed like a pretty cool dude next to the gray business type guy. Next to Puddy, he seems drab… “Yeahthat’sright”

  • Well linux and windows on the same computer is the best of both worlds. so forget mac when i got linux.
