Are you ready for Windows 7? Remember, you need go out and get a really nice computer with a nice monitor and lots of hard drive space – basically you’re going to have to get a Mac. Don’t worry, though. It’s easy to switch.
Parallels is essentially a virtual machine that can run almost any version of Windows. The $100 software and hardware solution lets you drag everything from your old Windows PC to your Mac and then run almost all your apps natively under OS X. Viola!
It takes about an hour to move 40GB of data and the product includes a book and training software to teach you how to use your shiny new purchase.

VIOLA!!!
(although I prefer the violin)
VIOLA!
Just dropping in to say “Cello”. ;-)
Parallels is a virtualization product – There is no “running native” about apps in a virtual machine. If you really want to run apps native, try Crossover Mac from Codeweavers. It is a modified port of wine.
VMWare is so much better than Parallels that it isn’t even a fair comparison.
You could also use virtualbox (virtualbox.org) which is free. Caveats are no ppc support (no one cares) and 64-bit guest operating systems are still borked.
Parallels 4 for Mac has has bugs that they have refused to fix since launch. These bugs aren’t rare, they’re reproducible in very common ways. At first they denied their existence, and since then have promised repeatedly to fix them but never have.

Or if that doesn’t work, go to their forum and search for “sticky keys”. You will see posts by users pleading for them to fix this issue since just after launch. You will see responses from Parallels promising to fix the issues just after launch, and then you’ll see complete silence from Parallels on the subject, regardless of how many people continue to experience this crippling bug.
Parallels 3 was faster, more stable and had far fewer bugs than Parallels 4, and their customer support is abysmal. Parallels 3 did not have this bug, so they can’t claim it’s that difficult to fix. They intentionally changed the keyboard control (for no reason, by the way) in Parallels 4 from 3. They created this problem out of thin air, and have refused to fix it.
Buy VMWare or try the free VirtualBox (I have not used the latter so I can’t attest to its performance).
Did I mention launch was a year ago?
Did I mention that Parallels support promised to fix the bug to people who purchased the product in the first three months?
Did I mention that they continued to promise to fix it until the window to get a refund elapsed?
It’s all in those threads in the forums. Look for yourself.
sounds like it sucks. i’ve been using vmware fusion. didn’t know it was such a mess
I don’t think you did…did you?
Well, but you still need to buy Windows.. I Don’t really think it’s worth it to also buy Parallels.. I mean why would you want to have Windows on a mac? Almost all programs are also programmed for macs and if not, just leave windows on your old PC and don’t let it mess up your Mac. (To drag files from one computer to another, just use a network cable?!)
Paralels is not a free software neither vmware fusion, so I prefer to use sun virtual box…
Basically the sun virtual box has the same features of the Paralels. In the case of the Vmware, it has a really nice feature: the drag-n-drop from/to the virtual machine to/from the Mac OSx.
Man i hate mac-lovers. You think youre so much better than everyone else. Guess what? Youre going to die cold, wet and alone.
When will they release Perpendicular this way i can run osx on my pc?
“have to get a mac”
Or a more powerful PC for half the price. No joke. Half the price for more power and more hd space.
Oh and a bigger monitor if you want…
So WTF are you talking about John Biggs?
Why are you lying?
