We just saw the Xbox 360 drop in price today, and according to my “Tetris effect” hypothesis, there has to be something to fill the gap left by the now-$299 Elite. Lo and behold, Amazon.de shows a listing this very day with the new item! It’s a 250GB 360, packaged with the upcoming Forza game. My my, 250GB. What would you do with that?

The package comes with two controllers and costs €280, which comes out to about 402 of your American dollars — so you can expect a $399 price point once it hits here. Reasonable… if you have a money tree in the back yard.

The 250GB is what sets it apart, clearly. Having twice the storage of your competitor is a nice bullet point to put on product comparisons, even if it is a hugely expensive option. Obviously the rise of downloadable content has made in-console storage a valuable commodity. But are you really going to have 200GB of XBLA games? Makes one think that perhaps the downloadable full game is at hand. Duh, it’s already at hand. Not so much for the PS3 though.

  • It seems you have missed out on the quite prominent launches of games on demand (full x360 games for download via xbox live) and the zune video marketplace (currently the xbox video marketplace – HD movies and tv shows for rent and/or download). Also the ability to “install” games to the hdd has been around since last year, hence the gaming community crying out for an upgrade like this.

It would be nice if you did some research or at least kept up with simple tech news if you are going to report on it.

  • I’m glad this article is reporting on the 250GB, because I never heard of it before this, but newmi is right. The author of this article should not be reporting on Xbox 360 affairs if he is so dreadfully out of date.

  • Hopefully this means the overpriced 120GB HDD upgrade will see a price drop.

  • 250GB..that’s lot of storage. I don’t want the 120GB to have a price drop, i want this to have to its price dropped lol..

  • Well if the 120GB HDD drops to 99.99$. The 250GB HDD could replace it in the old price ranged of 169.99$ or what ever the price used to be.

  • I agree with QuickSiR, it’ll be good to see a drop on that overpriced hd upgrade.

Personally I’m not surprised that Devin forgot about downloadable games, imo MS haven’t made a big deal about it, they haven’t advertised it as much as they should have. I keep forgetting it myself, though it should be a revolution in console gaming. I think MS should be more full-on about it, lots of promotion and a 1TB X360 to really make a splash. But maybe they’re saving all that so they don’t undermine the next gen.

  • I want one!!!
