super-elite
Confirming what we saw yesterday on Amazon.de, there is indeed a new 250GB model of the Xbox 360 called, disappointingly, the “Super Elite,” unless that’s just what this particular South African retailer decided to go with. Forza 3, two controllers, no HDMI cable. Seriously? at this point, I should be getting HDMI cables in my Multi-Grain Cheerios.

Oh, there is one wrinkle. The advertisement has the price at 4700 Rand, which translates to… about $600. Let’s hope that’s just the local price.

Okay, that’s just alarmism. Based on the pricing we’ve seen here in the states, this model should be $400.

  • The ad says 4200 when you trade in an old ps2 slim.
So the price is 4700, equivalent to £370 / $600.
Though the actual rrp is 5000 according to Joystiq, which converts to about $650. Ouch.

  • I’m not sure what is the point of a bigger hard drive in the Xbox. Sure, if there was something worth downloading in the Marketplace, it might make sense but there isn’t. As for transferring your own games to the HD, you still have to put in the original DVD to play anyway and loading times aren’t drastically different between the DVD and HD in my experience. Am I missing something?

    • Darren,

The Xbox recently started adding Xbox 360 titles to the Games on Demand.

With the 250gb hard drive, One could get a 35 7GB games onto that Hard drive. And since they are games downloaded, you do not need A disc to play. load times are faster and system is quieter and runs cooler. I’ve downloaded mass effect, basically a 7GB game within a couple of hours. Great service, and hope it drives a few nails into Physical media’s coffin.

      • There’s only 28 full Xbox 360 games there, mostly Platinum titles. I last checked a few months ago and nothing much has changed since then. You could buy every game available and still only half fill your drive. MS don’t seem keen at all to sell current games this way so until they do, the 250GB hard drive is almost useless. Call of Duty *2*? Be serious.
