And here we have yet another Apple tablet rumor to be bandied about all the livelong day. According to Gizmodo, “a source that has always been 100% reliable” says that Apple may be working on 13- and 15-inch tablets (aside from just the rumored 10-inch one) and that one of those tablets was seen running a full-fledged version of OS X 10.5.
Here’s more:
This source claims that the two touchscreen prototypes—made of aluminum, but on the shape of big iPhones—were in a factory in Shenzuen, China. One of them “was running Mac OS X 10.5.” When I asked, the source didn’t know if these were built for demonstration purposes, or if they were preproduction units. The company has a tight relation with Apple but “it’s not FoxConn.”
That’s about it for now. I’d personally think that if one tablet’s going to run the full operating system — say, the 15-inch one, for instance — then the 10- and 13-inch ones would run OS X as well. It’d be surprising for Apple to potentially confuse consumers by putting out a touchscreen tablet that ran different software depending solely on the screen size.
As always, take this stuff with a grain of salt until the very moment Steve Jobs actually announces the thing himself.

This is what I have been saying for a long ass time! Apple has been slowly putting touch friendly interfaces in all of their native apps. Coverflow is everywhere, top sites is pointless and slow unless it is part of a touch interface. And snow leo now lets you have larger desktop icons. How the hell needs large icon? People with fat fingers!
Full version of OSX it will be! Just having a larger iPod touch would be somewhat useless if you ask me. I am really hoping they allow for some kind of stylus input as well. It would be the ultimate school computer.

I definitely think touch interface for PCs is really going to come out strong in 2010, and Apple is going to be at the forefront of that. Combining the iPod/iPhone with features similar to what we’ve seen in Microsoft’s Surface makes a lot of sense. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Apple went to all touch displays for laptops and desktops in the next two years. So three tablets? Sure, I’ll believe. But let’s see the first one first, already.
Well? Where the hell is the crunchpad update? It’s August 28th already!
Yeah seriously! I might be able to afford the crunch pad!
look like the gap between smart phone and laptop is getting filled, i like it. just need a really big gel skin now.
My thesis all along has been that Snow Leopard is the pivot OS between the iPhoneOS and MacOS, branches, and whether that means the ability to run Mac Apps unmodified, recompiled or some new form of new hybrid runtime model, it just makes sense that the Tablet is where Apple confronts the matrix between all of these different form factors, something that I blogged about in:
Apple, the ‘Boomer’ Tablet and the Matrix

Apple introduced the first iPhone as a 3-in-1 device… “Today we’re introducing a widescreen iPod, an Internet device, and a phone.”
Maybe their next phenom device will also be 3-in-1? “Today we’re introducing an HD iPod, a touchscreen computer, and a TV”?
I bet apple will stop the macbook and switch that out with the tablet. Only thing I’m not sure about is what they are going to do with the macbook air and the ease of use of this device while you are sitting on a couch or something.
