A leaked poster told us most of the pertinent information about Canon’s upcoming 7D, and this adds weight to that info. There are a few new specs; apparently the AF system is a new layout, and it’s a dual Digic IV processor setup, which probably accounts for its ability to shoot at 8FPS. There’s also a new flash and an… aerodynamic body design? What?

Don’t ask me what ALO and PIC are. Some of the commenters are disputing the veracity of these pics and specs, but they sound about right to me. Apparently it’s a 1.6x cropped FOV, which some people will like and some not; at any rate those new wide angle zooms would be sweet on a 1.6x or 1.3. As I noted before, I’d put its price at sub-$2000, probably priced competitively but not equally with Nikon’s new D300s.
There’s also a nice new 100mm f/2.8L macro: dual IS, 9-blade aperture, internal focus and full-time manual. I’m guessing it’ll be somewhere in the neighborhood of $1200. How I would love to have one… but I guess I’ll just have to continue doing semi-macro with my 35mm f/2. Hey, it works!
Very nice, I love my Canon camera. It has seen the world and taken a pretty bad beating. 1200 seems up there let’s see if they come down in price a bit or package the camera differently.
I was really hoping for a cheaper full-sensor camera, I’ve been thinking about ‘graduating’ into full-frame for a while, so if the 7D is a 1.6 crop, I will have to decide between that or a used 5D (1st generation).

I use the current Canon Macro at work, and it’s a fine lens, but it can’t touch Nikon’s 105 VR. (Or Leica’s now obsolete 100 Apo Macro Elmarit R for that matter.) I hope Canon updates the optics on this, because IS will do Macro work no good at all. It’s okay for normal portrait work, but IS does nothing for high magnification work.
They were arguing about that at the source. If you’re shooting non-high-mag stuff it’s useful though. Any kind of handheld close focus stuff.
For Macro photography, Both the 7D and the 100mm f/2.8L will be top notch! – I have been waiting for a long time for Canon to come up with such a great camera that will win me over the D300.
