So it looks like the rumors of an Apple event on September 9 are true. This event, themed after a Rolling Stones song seems to involve some classic tunes. It also a music-focused event so that means new iPods. But what else can we expect?
First, expect iPods with cameras as well as a move of focus to the iPod Touch as the main iPod product. They stopped adding iPod Classics to their “reminders” a few years ago. Could this be the year the Classic goes the way of the dodo?

THIS IS THE IMAGE THEY USED WHEN THEY STILL LIKED THE iPOD CLASSIC
Otherwise, we know as much as you do. Watch this space, though. We’ll be there live and with bells on.

First!
Apple on a rock n roll! Wow! Waiting to watch Steve do the honor again. Also, is the Tablet a possibility? At least a glimpse of it?
God, I hope. I bet not though, they prefer March or June dates for computer releases. Just wait a couple more months.
Let this event put an happy end to the rumors about Apple Tablet. Rumors regarding the September event of Apple are uncountable. Hope this rock and roll knocks out rumors and let the real design and features come to light.
iPod touch with cameras! ahh can’t wait.
What’s the use of it though? Hardly use the cameras on phone. And, going by the way, how the camera on the iphone sucked, not that excited. High time they up the touch though.
Nice! I’m gunna predict/guess at a new iPod touch with camera, drop the iPod classic, and re-name the iPod nano simply as the iPod. iTunes 9 also hopefully. And in my opinion, no Apple Tablet! Never!
I’m hoping for iTunes 9 and an awesome iPod product (other than Touch). If nothing compelling comes out, then I’ll be getting the Zune HD on the 15th. But, I gotta wait and see what Apple has up their sleeves!
I hope we see another software update for AppleTV.
Overall though, I’m expecting this to be a pretty lame event.
Maybe they’ll also revamp the app store.
I’m hoping for another AppleTV update as well. In fact; I still think there are a lot of innovative things that could happen with a completely new version of the device.
(think Apps, push notifications, etc…)
Uh, is it September 5th or 9th? The post title says 9th, but that image says the 5th.
@Reid You must just look at pictures and not read articles… too bad… you would have clearly seen that they referenced an older announcement…
but.. of crap.. this is words.. you can’t ready this either. never mind… I will create a big image for you…
I read the entire thing. Looked over it twice to see if I was missing anything. Either I missed the caption below the photo (note: caption not the article itself) or it was added there after I read it.
It was an honest question and I read the article twice. No need to be a jerk about it.
He can’t “ready” it? Perhaps the next time you’re making fun of someone for not reading you’ll at least spell you’re insults correctly.
Also, “of crap” should probably read “oh crap”. And “these are words” would make more sense.
Just a little nitpick myself; since you are nitpicking the idiot commenter. When you point out the grammatical flaws of one person you should make sure that your grammar is up to snuff. You wrote “spell you’re insults correctly.” “you’re” is a contraction for you are. “Your” would have been the proper word usage for your correction.
Wow *you’re* right. Woops. Thanks.
Oh well. The parent (is that the correct term?) asked a valid question, there was no reason for anyone to insult him/her. It seems to be happening more and more. You’re right though, I should have caught that.
Since no one seems to want to answer your question, and seem to want to fight amongst themselves, the event is on the 9th. The second picture is referencing an event from a while ago, where the focus was on the iPod Classic instead of the one coming up, where the focus looks to be centered on the iPod Touch.
All hope is lost for the Beatles.
They will announce the release of the Beatles catalog (as if anyone cares).
They will have a new ipod w/ HD video.
They will have a new version of ITUNES.
I can’t imagine they get rid of the “Classic” all together – I doubt it costs much to manufacture at this point, and there are people who still want the giant storage only offered in the Classic. Why remove themselves from a segment of their market by taking away something that costs them nothing to develop and little to manufacture?
September 9th is also the release of Beatles Rock Band and the re-release of their entire catalog. Coincidence?
may be new iPod Touch, upto 64 GB ,3.2 MP camera, faster processor & ram,GPS(so ipod user can buy those heavy apps) and radio.
Apple TV update(monthly subscription) and iTunes 9
karaoke.
I bet they release a new Apple TV with full HD. I just went and bought one recently and with my luck it will be replaced.
I suppose I should have waited until after this, but I didn’t hear any rumours (uk spelling) .
Why are people always so “surprised” about those special event dates? They are the same every year and they always have the same topics.
- January (old Macworld): new hardware, eg. new Macs, introduction of iPhone
- April: roadmap for iPhone OS (for app developers, to anticipate the June release of new iPhone + OS)
- June (WWDC): new iPhone hardware, roadmap for new OSX version
- September: new iPods, new iTunes (consumer stuff for holiday season)
- October: new hardware, eg. aluminium unibody macbooks (also for holiday season, “replacement” for old Macworld event in not-so-well placed January)
Oh, and those events are typically on a Tuesday. This has been exactly like that the last few years. You could write an auto-blogging tool that writes a “breaking” post like 2 or 3 weeks before and includes the rough topic and randomly throws in those wishful features, such as Beatles on iTunes for the september event, and the information contained would be the same as in many blogs covering Apple today.
You’re right, Alex. September = iPods. I don’t think we’d say we’re surprised, it’s more like, “Right then, cheerio.”
As for the Beatles (if that even happens), well, I supposed that’s more for the older crowd. If a young kid can’t rip a Beatles CD in the year 2009 something must be amiss.
I think its going to be a 3GS touch pretty much. Slight possibility of HD Video. 16GB, 32GB, 64GB. I think a camera w/video is a must. Dont most of the GPS programs require a Data connection?
I have a feeling its going to be very small simple upgrades to the current ipod lines. Apple really doesn’t have to blow people away anymore to get them to buy.
3GS touch? Isn’t that an iPhone?
I think what he means is; an ipod touch with the same upgraded processor and memory?
i’m a little bugged by the artwork. her leg is cut off and it looks like she slipped and is about to fall.
I expect:
- an Overview how much songs they sold over the year
- iTunes 9
- and iPods with bigger Hard-drives for less money!
thats all as always.
Double-wide iPod Touch loaded with the Allman Brothers box-set… oh and it’ll have EVDO wireless from Verizon for music and book downloads, but only usable through the iTunes store.
If there is nothing close to iPad, I am not interested
ipad is what they would call it. But everyone is saying that there will be no iPad at this event. It’s a computer, not an ipod. If it was an ipod, we would have the iPod Touch S
Stop the grammar policing and read the headline again.
The actual Rolling Stones lyric is “…but I like it.” Apple changed it to “…but we like it.” The whole focus will be on the addition of social networks (turning the “I” into the “we”) to iTunes.
Which they should promptly rename weTunes.
HAHAHA!!!
“Come on out, Steve Jobs!”
I love the Classic. If you have an iPhone, an iPod Touch isn’t really needed. I’d rather have the 120 GB of space that the Classic offers. After all, 32 or 64GB isn’t nearly enough.
I doubt there gonna discontinue to the iPod classic. The main reason being it offers a high amount of media storage. Right now the second highest is the iPod touch 32gb. When it comes to movie attics. Thats just a chunk of the iTunes library. And apple knows. it. I will bet we will see a 64gb iPod touch. Also the whole iPod touch line will be with a video cam. Possibly bluetooth? The demand is going up for it for iPhones. iTunes 9 guaranteed. No tablet. Thats for early 2010. 3.1 for iPod and iPhone guaranteed to. MMS for iPhone
I bet they are going to upgrade the Itouch(thats way they have been clearing their inventory by handing them out for free.) Then they are going to have a new Itunes which has some graphically, fancy thing to get you behind the scenes with these bands. Also do something about the about the ipod shuffle
I wonder why there should be so much emphasis on storage anymore, when there are so many sites to listen to any music at any time, and when Nokia has started waging war with their “Comes with Music” systems which allow to listen to music for free.
I think social networking and social music listening has got to be their next thing. They must have seen song purchases lower as sites such as GrooveShark, etc. came about, and they must be ready to do something about it, I am sure… so they have to move to sell more movies, and more apps, and make the music become more seamless and social.
Although I’ve been hooked to Apple for many years from the first iPod onwards, and although I wouldn’t trade my iPhone for something else at the moment, when looking at the Nokia N900 demo today I couldn’t help thinking that Apple has got to get some things right in the near future. On the N900, like on many others, multi-tasking is a non-issue, Facebook feeds appear scrolling on screen, and music is served wirelessly without having to store your own collection on the device….
