ASUS’ NVIDIA Ion-powered EeeBox PC has gotten sort of official. It’s on ASUS’ website now, at least, although there’s still not much in the way of pricing or availability. The specs look pretty nice, though, with a whisper-quiet setup thanks to a dual-core Atom N330 CPU, 2GB of RAM, 250GB SATA hard drive, 802.11b/g/n wireless, card reader, and, of course, the horsepower to push full 1080p video.
There’s HDMI and VGA output, along with three USB ports and an eSATA port for external upgrades. The system weighs 2.4 pounds and will be available in black or white. The OS is listed as Windows Vista Home Premium, which pretty much means that this little guy will be out before late October when Windows 7 gets released.

I’m loving these little embedded PC’s. Here is another one I’m looking at: http://www.portwell.com/products/detail.asp?CUSTCHAR1=WEBS-1010
I wonder if it will push Hulu and YouTube HD at full screen high resolution? I was under the impression these dual atoms could not.
the original 206 version that had hdmi couldnt push the fullscreen, but im pretty sure that was a single core atom. I think these duals can do it now. Atleast i hope so otherwise IMO it useless
Why do these things cost just as much as netbooks do? I don’t understand that. No screen, no keyboard, no track pad, no battery, no speakers, no webcam… what else? They’re basically super water-downed versions of $330 netbooks, for about the same amount.
At least this one is quite a bit better than its predecessor and will create an actual line between specs of desktops and laptops.
Still though. Its annoying. These things should be selling for what? $150? Even dell sells desktops for $200 and they’re better than these. I just don’t see where the price is coming from…
size. smaller components generally mean lower quanitites of specialized parts ordered which means greater prices for said parts. I didnt know netbooks had dualcore atom cpus and 250GB disk drives… I dont think there’s a netbook out there that even supports 720p.
Hmmm. I can’t say I agree because I don’t quite understand your mentality. Care to further explain? Still a bit confused.
There aren’t netbooks or even nettops with dual core atoms or 250GB HDD’s. This one in the article is the first from what I’ve seen.
Go to any website though and compare netbooks with nettops and spec wise they are exactly the same, except the netbook has a lot more to it, so why are nettops cheaper? Why are they the same priced. Doesn’t make sense. The cost to manufacture netbooks HAS to be higher just simply because there is that much more to them.
Whaddaya mean, when Windows 7 gets released? Clever dicks like me already have it!
