zune-heaven
I think we all knew it was coming. After all, the new interface, while aesthetically similar to the old Zune UI, is totally incompatible with the old hardware. You can’t teach an old dog new tricks, unfortunately — though I would add, that doesn’t mean you have to throw away the dog.

Unfortunately, that’s what Microsoft has to do in order to run with Apple and Samsung and the rest; slick little touchscreen players are the future, and as we’ve seen, you can make the screen bigger (or the whole device smaller, as with the Zune HD) if you remove those bulky controls.

So, farewell, pal Zune. We’ll post a proper retrospective at a later time. Anyway, I’ll continue to use you because you’re good and I don’t want to buy anything from Apple.

On the plus side, this means there will be some crazy prices on Zunes within a few weeks. For those of you out there like me who buy their tech one generation behind (lovin’ my PS2), it’ll be a bonanza.

  • I love my Zune…and sometime down the road will get a ZuneHD, but I have no intentions of doing that anytime soon.

But when I read ‘discontinued’ from Microsoft, it makes me a bit worried about my current Zune software.

Anyone, have any info on if I will have issues going forward? I mean, I can’t imagine they will make issues for it…but then again I would have thought they could have figured out that date issue before it Y2K’9ed on me back in January.

  • Now if it would only get a camera and a “as good” app store, I’d totally be in for the new zune hd. C’mon microsoft, make it at least on par with the touch. Although they do have a few features that I personally like, such as radio and the ability to see whats playing and to be able to buy it. But I want my camera dammit.

  • Hey Microsoft how bout a 64 or 128 GB Zune Hd than

  • Sold by 30GB Zune on Gazelle a couple of weeks ago. I’m still not sure if I’ll get a Zune HD or not. I’m looking to see how the Android MID market shakes out, since I’d really like an Android device without the monthly data plan costs. If none of them look good, though, I’ll probably go back to Zune land.
