The latest Stargate Universe trailer clearly shows someone watched BSG

Oh man, Stargate Universe launches on October 2nd. I can’t wait even though the latest trailer shows that the show has clearly taken a more edgy stance, which in my mind at least, isn’t what a Stargate show be. But that’s not new info. The creators have stated that SGU will be different for a while, but this trailer confirms it. The show is going to be darker, full of mystery, and shot to look like Battlestar Galactica. But the simple Star Wars reference at the end of the trailer shows some hope that the show might actually maintain some of its Stargate identity. Hopefully.

  • I’d watch this.

  • Get rid of the kid and it looks alright.

  • It manages to look both dark and cheesy at the same time – like a French onion soup. That’s not a good thing.

Including that kid in there is certainly risky – could end up like Wesley from Star Trek TNG.

  • I, for one, am excited for Stargate Galactica.

  • I watched this with the sound off and at first, I thought i was watching a commercial for a judd apatow movie when the redshirted kid came on screen! i’m gonna give it a try but i think i’ll be rooting for the bad guys!

  • Lost in Space with a stargate

  • Intriguing story, but where’s the connection to the previous SG teams in Colorado and Atlantis? I liked those guys … they can provide a link and possibly participate? The idea of the geeky kid is weird.

  • Other than the use of handheld camera’s, this isn’t shot anything like Galactica. BSG was shot using over-the-top close up shots of the actors trying to be dramatic, only to be broken up by moving shots made by a cameraman who was either smashed or was told to shake the camera about. If anything this seems the complete opposite, there are lots of wide shots and it’s filmed as if the guy with the camera is just another member of the crew trying to capture the action.

I understand why the knee-jerk reaction to the switch from steady cam to hand-held is to proclaim that they’re copying BSG, but if this trailer is anything to do by, they really aren’t. Certainly not from a camera work point of view anyway…

  • Oh, and that ‘kid’ is 30.

  • Star trek voyager anyone?

  • FINALLY a ‘Stargate’ series for grown-ups! I always disliked both of the previous series as basically badly written male adolescent fantasy drivel for the most part, but after watching the two-hour premiere I am definitely giving this show a chance (and yes it DEFINITELY has a BSG vibe, and since I really liked that series is a definite plus for me)!

  • Well I started to watch Stargate since 1997 and loved the show. I, as most of the people did not like the opening of Stargate Atlantis but came to love the show. However Stargate Universe is a total let down. Not only as a series but the whole concept in general. While in Stargate and Stargate Atlantis, we knew there is always help from earth or allies. In this we have 80 people who are not soldiers, a handful of soldiers with 23 weapons all together. NO food and NO water and NO ammunition. And they have no clue where they are. The writers are desperate, which is shown by the sex scene in the first few minutes of the primer, and also a lot of time wasted on sorting out their feelings towards each other as if this is a day time soap opera. Hell maybe it is.
I for one do not see the show to go any further than the first season if it does not improve fast. Since this is a lame remake of LOST IN SPACE.

  • I think the whole idear is a big change from sg/sg1 & sga maybe we should watch it through b4 the thumbs up or down! although so far its looking good so far i feel
