Yikes! Bikes! Fruit Stripe Gum! This is the YikeBike. It looks like a unicycle with a second, stabilizing wheel. If only there were a word to describe a unicycle with two wheels. Bi-something. Bi-cycle!
The YikeBike, she folds down to a somewhat-manageable size. The whole getup weighs around 22 pounds, so you can be that sweaty guy in the crumpled suit that brings his bike into the office everyday.

Did I mention that it’s electric? That’s important. It has a one-kilowatt motor that can reach a top speed of 12 miles per hour. Charging apparently only takes about a half-hour and will give you enough juice for a five-mile jaunt.
The YikeBike will be available in mid-2010 for “between €3,500-€3,900″ in the UK, Germany, France, Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Ireland, Denmark, Belgium, and New Zealand. That’s between $5000 and $5570 to those of us here in the US — no word on whether it’ll ship here, though.

Howdy, Mr. Salesman. I am in the market for a bike. But I don’t want anything crazy like handlebars attached. Those things always just get in the way. In fact, that whole “structure” thing is incredibly overrated. Just give me a wheel with a little support on the backend. And if you can make it so I don’t have to peddle this thing, well, that’s just a bonus.
lol i saw this in action on the morning news one word came to mind ” douche” LMAO!
Some poor asshole(s) spent a lot of cash, time and effort designing this thing. What a waste, those poor, poor devils.
A bad idea resulting in a bad product. Way to go, Team YikeBike!
Five WHOLE miles at 12 WHOLE miles per hour. Wow. And in such an attractive and safe package.
That’s ALMOST useful. To someone. I guess.
I agree. the design is a bit suspect. It doesn’t look comfortable at all. 22lb isn’t exactly easy to carry around town either.
To all of you who says its a bad idea, i’m have to disagree.
It’s the segway without the clumsy inconvenient :
Look at the video :

I actually like it, and the folded size is actually small enough to take it with you IN the office and avoid theft.
WANT…….
lose some weight, maybe then you wont mind walking.
It isn’t exactly an electric bicycle is it really? I mean, when I think “electric bicycle” I think something that you pedal, which has an electric assist motor of some sort. This does away with the whole pedal thing, making it more of a really odd electric scooter than a bicycle. At least that is how I see it. No pedals, you can’t call it a bicycle.
2x better than walking
20x worse than driving
“…so you can be that sweaty guy in the crumpled suit that brings his bike into the office everyday.”
And you can be the fat guy who wastes his life in traffic.
I think that if your cool the bike will be cool, if your a dork you look like a dork. Much better than the Segway its just to wide and clunky to move through urban foot traffic. Lets see 12 whole miles per hour? Average speed in midtown is around 3 miles per hour, other parts of Manhattan not much more than 10 miles per hour! Average Subway speed in NYC is around 15 miles per hour! I say not bad. 5 miles is pretty good considering that it charges in half an hour grab a cup of coffee, and juice up. Personally I like to be able to peddle though, and the A2B can go up to 40 miles at 20mph sounds more fun at that point run outa juice just peddle hahaha….
Wow! I think that it is nice. But, I have no way to buy it for $5,000. It’s because it is very easy for someone to steal it. I am NOT interested to pay for the insurance. Forget it.
