That blasted Apple event is on Wednesday, and in the interest of having fresh-but-not-really posts on this holiday weekend, here’s some interesting predictions I’ve stumbled upon. The highlight: say goodbye to the iPod classic.
Note that the following predictions were predicted by one of the Tumblr guys; I’m sure he’s a nice fellow.
And they are!
• iPod classic will be eliminated
• The highest end iPod will be the $349 64GB iPod touch
• The lowest end iPod will be the $59 4GB iPod shuffle
• The iPod nano will only come in 8GB, but will come with a camera
&bill; The cheapest iPod touch will be the 8GB $149 deal. Think iPhone 3G S, sans AT&T
What’s the rationale here? Hardly anyone needs the classic, so why not just get rid of it? Besides, we (Apple) want to expose these people to the iPhone OS, and for that we need to get them an iPhone or iPod touch. The nano is finished technologically; how much more can you improve it?
Basically, the iPod touch is going to be the belle of the ball from here on out.
Of course, these are merely the predictions of one guy. They could well be horribly wrong.

Although DigiTimes is a little hit and miss in terms of its reliability with rumors, eliminating the iPod classic contradicts one of their recent rumors which said that the iPod classic would be gaining a camera in its next revision.

Apple would anger a lot of customers if they got rid of the classic (and didn’t replace it with something with at least as much storage). Though most people don’t need 120 GB of space, there is still a descent crowd that has A LOT of music.
It’d be a real shame if we’re stuck with the Nano and the Touch. The Touch is crappy as an iPod (I own and use the 1G Touch daily). The interface for browsing and playing music on the Touch is AWFUL and very greedy of your attention – too much so for safe use behind the wheel.
Had I not won the Touch in a contest, I’d certainly have the 120GB classic by now.
… and why can’t someone create quick-release beer bottles already?!; it’s such a pain to open a bottle of Bud while driving! ;P
The Classic is nice because it holds a good amount of storage. The Nano doesn’t and by the looks of it, its going to hold even less now? 8GB is nothing. The only logical replacement would be the 64GB Touch, however, some people like physical buttons and again, that 120GB of space which is more than double the Touch offers.
So that said, I don’t see them getting rid of it. The sales might be low, but they can’t be that low. That, or they will get rid of it but the Nano will come in other flavors aside from 8GB.
I do not think Apple will get rid of iPod classic because that product still serve the market who needs huge storage… 64G iPod Touch is definitely too small to please customers who has lots of music.
Unless Apple come out with a new replacement… otherwise, I think the iPod Classic will still be there!
My 160g is almost full. When it craps out (again) in a year there’d better be boatloads of refurbs out there or I’ll have to switch to a different manuf… wait, nobody makes anything that big for music. I don’t want a power-hogging video player that I’d never use. K thx bai.
I think iPod Touch with video camera & GPS would make a large difference…becuase apple can sell those paid GPS app and video app…and it is a complete package for eveyone..nobody needs portable GPS system then…
Who said no one is using the classic anymore? Who are you guys who write these things? You need to get out more. My classics are working just fine. I just need more space, not less.
Hey, we NEED the Classics!! My 120Gb classic is full and I need at least 100Gbs more…
Want to abandon the classics? make a 160Gb touch and I’ll meet you there…
I fail to understand why to say bye bye to the iPod classic. iPod nano might be good but I am also satisfied with the iPod Classic. I like the sleek design. It is very simple to operate and battery life is very good. It is available in 2 colors silver and black. People need not worry about the sound quality, its very clear. Video quality is also satisfying.
