Could Windows 7 really get better? The latest ad says more happy is coming. Gosh, I’m already very happy with the OS but now a little curious if that’s just a nonsense PR statement or really a true statement. I guess we’ll find out. Your thoughts?

Windows 7 is a much prettier, and faster vista with a few new features that are great. I’ve been running the RC ever since it came out on my Imac in bootcamp. It runs fairly smoothly, it uses about 650 mb’s of RAM at idle (which is a lot), however; RAM is getting cheaper, and more PC’s are coming with 4 gigs standard which is more than enough for most people. I’ve tried a few games, compiled a few of large apps i wrote, and played around in photoshop a bit. All of this was quite smooth (some filters weren’t exactly bullets, but they weren’t awful). My one trouble was when i tried a few 3D renderings (might just be a problem with bootcamp, I’ve heard some of the Autodesk programs aren’t quite as snappy as they should be (I’m running maya)). The tough part is comparing Windows to it’s competition (OS X), the trouble is that one is definitely better than the other, but whenever this argument comes up someone always brings in their love for one company rather than looking at the facts (their are BOTH Windows and Mac lovers out there, not just the latter). Most people will bring it down to opinion, or use stereotypes built up over time about the OS’s, but this does not help anyone actually make a decision on which to buy. They are both getting very to pick up and learn, System preferences is still quite a bit better than control panel, however, most users won’t touch either except for visual changes and account changes. The dock and start bar have become very similar, in snow leopard there is dock expose, and in 7 there is the hover over to view icon views of open windows for that application. I have read a lot about how many people now prefer the start bar icon previews to expose, however, I think it is a matter of setting up expose to work with spaces. Just have a certain number of apps open in a total of 4 spaces, set expose to the mouse, and you don’t even need to move the mouse. Also, snow leopard is fast.
Windows 7 has been very impressive. I am running the RC on bootcamp and boy this thing is snappy as well as very stable. It looks and feels pretty much live Vista but it runs about 10 times better. Well done!
I have been using Windows 7 from 3 months..and i find it to be better then any other MS OS ever. Highly stable, almost every thing is plug-and-play. I never used Vista cause it just don’t work on my 1GB ram laptop.. but this thing works perfectly.
Looks like Microsoft takes some time before its products become stable.. When XP was released every one hated it because it was very unstable.. but eventually it became the best OS of all time. The same story seems to be repeating with Vista but this time around MS has gave it a new name instead of service pack releases.. maybe to get rid of the bad name Visa have earned in the years.
I’ve been using Windows 7 in both Bootcamp and an aging laptop. The OS is very responsive and stable. For the most part, it’s easy to use and appears to have a user-friendly environment. As previous posters have stated, it has the core look and feel of Vista, but none of the sluggishness, bloat, or hefty hardware requirements. Is it Microsoft’s best OS to date? Well, it’s hard to beat XP, but I think that it could eventually be an XP killer. Eventually.
for those who have been fakked with Vista, I bet they are happy something better is coming along.
