Words cannot describe the anticipation all of CrunchGear feels for the upcoming Prince of Persia movie, starring Jake Gyllenhaal. You may remember him from… nope, nope, I have no idea who he is, either. But anyway, news! Despite the fact that every two-bit Hollywood movie these days comes in 3D in some capacity, well, Prince of Persia is no different. There’s a catch, though.

The movie itself wasn’t shot in 3D, but this poster, touting Disney’s Technology Magic, shows the film as being part of the Disney Digital 3D wonderment. What that probably means is that the film will be filmed totally normally, then given the post-production 3D hatchet job.
I stand by the notion that if you want to see a story told in 3D, why not go to a theater? You know, Broadway stuff. Real, live people, jumping around in elaborate costumes. It’s like a movie, but live and 100 percent 3D. Bam, problem solved.
CM Punk (that guy —->) would have been a better Prince, if not some, you know, a Persian (read: Iranian) actor. Bah, authenticity, who needs it?

UPDATE According to one of comingsoon.net’s sources, the movie will not be in 3D, rubbish or otherwise. It’ll be a plain ol’, regular movie. And seeing as though they’re a movie site, I’m inclined to believe them. If we were talking about a new phone or whatever, then it’d be a different story.

Please tell me you’re joking when you say you don’t know who Jake Gyllenhaal is.
You seriously never saw Donnie Darko?
And I’ve never bothered seeing them, but it was impossible to miss advertising for The Day After Tomorrow and Brokeback Mountain.
Well, I don’t watch a lot of movies to begin with, so that’s why I don’t know who he is. (Well, now I do, of course.) Have I heard the name? Sure, but I couldn’t pick him out of a lineup if my life depended on it.
According to comingsoon.net, that poster is inaccurate: http://www.comingsoon.net/news/d23exponews.php?id=59093
It is completely off topic for this site, but still, as I sit here in Hollywood in 2009, it is really getting embarrassing that we STILL are casting white guys with a fake tan as Persian. I mean between casting Korean guys as Japanese, British guys as Greeks and Romans, and all the other strange ethnic switches Hollywood pulls, you would think that no one here had ever been told there was a whole world out there. It is the 21st century people! This movie is probably going to be seen by actual Persians, who probably aren’t going to buy Jake Gyllenhaal in the role.
Are you seriously telling me that they couldn’t find one good-looking talented Iranian, in all of LA? How hard is it to figure out that the title character of Prince of Persia might play better if he were… Persian?
I was kinda surprised myself when I’d found out it was Jake Gyllenhaal playing the Prince role…
btw, CM Punk would actually make a better Prince! lol =p
Jake Gyllenhaal is a good enough actor. Now when I think of him playing this part, I can only think of “Brokeback Persia”. lol
What’s funny is there IS an actual Prince of Persian who might’ve been good for the role.
