zune
Reminder! That Zune HD launch is hitting tomorrow, and I guarantee they’re going to be at least trying to roll the new 4.0 software out at midnight. I’m spending my Monday night drinking beer and refreshing zune.net, why aren’t you? All right, I also watched Gossip Girl. On accident!

Anyway, the new stuff they’ve got coming is hot. I’ll post a full unboxing and tour tomorrow for the curious. Having handled the hell out of this little thang, I can tell you it’s worth taking a look.

Update:
The update is live. 131.2MB? Seriously? After I wrote a thousand words on iTunes taking up 88?

http://zune.net/en-us/products/software/download/default.htm if you must know.

Update:
come on guys
C’mon guys! Let’s make this happen!

“Zune needs an update”
“Can’t contact Microsoft Update right now”

Son of a..

coooooome on

Seriously. Launch it or don’t launch it. I like this thing but your competitor, Apple, wouldn’t launch a new platform that didn’t work, even at midnight. Let’s do this, people!

Okay. I’m doing this in the morning. With coffee. If you can make it go, comment how you did so here for other very early adopters.

  • I am totally amped up for tomorrows launch! I just hope my wife is home when the UPS guy comes ringing with my Amazon pre-order!

    • Ed, I’m jealous! I don’t use my 4GB flash Zune frequently enough to warrant buying a new toy, but it looks amazing. I probably use the radio more than any other function, and the HD Radio is really intriguing to me.

I think I’m most looking forward to the PC software improvements though; I’m hoping to kick my Windows Media Player habit for good, in favor of the Zune software.

    • I guess I’m REALLY just holding out for the phone integration – I’d love to have the Zune HD on the Verizon network.

  • I’m waiting for the 64Gb one. Too much music =/ but I do look forward to the Software update.

  • update 4.0 is live…

  • Woot Downloading!

  • mines been stuck at 100% for 10 minutes >.<

  • Downloading now. No ZuneHD in hand yet, but I can at least try out the software. Tried to see if the Xbox has an update now, but nothing so far.

  • Links a little screwed up on their page. If you want the 64 bit version, click on the links on the left side of the download page, rather than selecting Win 7 or 64 bit Vista, which just gets you the 32 version right now.

  • Just use Windows Update. The correct version of the Zune software should be offered. The download is also much smaller.

  • Is anyone haveing issues upgrading to 4.0? I have tried it on two PC’s with no sucesss. I tries through the Zune software, and downloaded the installer at Zune.net….

    Help….please.

  • i opened up the zune software at 7 am central, and it updated quickly and easily. really quickly.

  • I was able to install through the zune software at 8am eastern. After it finished installing, I had to reboot before I could connect my Zune.

Also, I’m still running a 1st gen 30gb Zune. After reboot and it connected to my Zune, I was able to upgrade the device software.

Devin, do you know what’s changed for past gen Zune’s with the new 4.0 update? I haven’t really been able to see anything yet.

  • Ya, you should have just done an update from within the software(if you already have it…). It took my comp about a minute, although I am running with a SSD…

  • I did the install a couple of times, and got hung up on the “100%” screen every time. I figured out how to get through it: If you get the download “100%” hang up, cancel and close everything. It DID install OK. Plug in the Zune (to the pc) and launch the program. It will go through the setup and then to Sign In. Even there, it took two tries at the Terms of Service screen, but now it is working fine. The “Apps” are there, but the same games as already offered– plus some new items like MSN Weather and a calculator.

  • For those who are experiencing the “stuck at 100%” dilemma….all you do is go to the old software…go to settings, general, and look for updates…I had the same issue
