The Zune HD is sold out and backordered all over the place. Nicholas got the last one in his local Best BuyWal-Mart, and your favorite online retailer is probably waiting for their next shipment (32GB versions especially). Sure, it’s probably the result of retailers underestimating customer demand, but hey, I think Microsoft will take all the sold outs it can get.

Wal-Mart, Devin. I bought the Zune at Wal-Mart. I’m still boycotting Best Buy. (Yes it’s 11pm and I’m playing Wow. What are you gonna do?)
Hehe, nice. Saw this at Engadget too… and I’m glad it is sold out. But at the same time, I want one. Now. Guess I’ll order it direct from Microsoft. :P
(Was going to anyway, actually. Zune Originals… though I’d still like to see an actual picture of the blue one before I buy it.)
M$ is playing the Pre game… it’s called short supply. The OLED’s limit manufacturing capacity anyway, but I wouldn’t be surprised if M$ only put out 100,000 of these things to stores.
Or pretty good forecasting. You don’t want a lot of capital tied up inventory. Production leadtimes allowing your inventory should just be ever so slightly ahead of actual demand. You don’t want to lose impulse sales to a competitor nor do you want stacks of units on the self. Forecasting is more art than science.
yeah it looks like a huge improvement over the original Zune, much better touch screen, better interface, and I hear it even does somethings better the iPod touch. I think Microsoft should have dropped the Zune name though and launched it as a brand new product line since many still hear the word Zune and look the other way.

Most people I’ve talked to haven’t even heard about the Zune. Not to mention… if they did that, the fanboys would be screaming “Microsoft gave up on the Zune!”
the original zunes wernt bad, why lose the name? just the nasty sh*t brown color is all.
Keep the damm name already. If MS named it mTouch or something we’d never stop hearing about that either.
I CANNOT get enough of the user interface on the Zune HD. Freaking awesome to look at and play with. Also, the Zune software version 4.0 looks crazy amazing on my 48″ TV, especially when the album art / artist info is running while listening to music. Get ONE. ( I want another one ).
