Intel, in an Onion-esque display of technological one-uppery, has set the world on fire with its latest mega-laptop, which sports not only a large primary display but three sub-displays above the keyboard. These little OLED touchscreens will be able to display videos, music playlists, and file explorers — pretty much whatever you like.
Here’s some video from CNET Asia:
They can be treated as a single screen (e.g. “full-screen” video on one) or as one continuous surface (the “albums” in the video spill across multiple screens). To be honest, I’m not convinced of the utility of this particular model, but it’s mainly a proof of concept. They wanted to show that they’re working on integrating this kind of display matrix into their laptops, but not necessarily in this extreme manner.
What do you guys think of the dual-screen thing? The W700DS seems a little extreme, and the SpaceBook seems a lot extreme. If you really need that much display space, don’t you need the power of a desktop?

I dunno, after looking at the video it seems really clunky and, well, pointless.
A rediculous feature, implemented very poorly.
The screens look cheap and tacky, and the UI (though only proof of concept) looks awkward, annoying and ugly.
Would be interesting to find out how much battery these extra screens waste, and roughly how much more this would add to the laptop price (I suspect a rediculous unjustified amount).
Seriously, is this the best they can do? Can’t come up with any useful innovative features, so let’s just add on some cheapass screens above the keyboard – forget about the practicality!
Yeah, that’s definitely overkill, but I’m sure lots of rich buffoons will love to show it off.
lol if the touchscreens they used weren’t ridiculously terrible, this might actually be a decent feature.
Man humans just love to nay-say.
I think if a good UI is developed this could be a seriously handy feature. Work on your screen keep your side apps (music, rss readers?, jpeg viewer) on smaller screens. Really not a bad idea. Couldnt really tell from the video how well it was done here though and Id need to know the effect on battery life and price…
I don’t see the need. I can have multiple apps and browser windows open on my single screen and navigate easily between then. I think some product guys got overly excited with OLED and wanted to do something novel with it. As for usefulness I don’t see any advantage this provides over the existing methods of having multiple apps running on a laptop.
Sweet, somewhere to put a media player so it’s not hiding behind other windows or in the taskbar or whatever…and maybe a feed in another window…I like it, it’s tidy.
now that is really multi-tasking lol
