Our own Nicholas Deleon is on his way to the official announcement this morning but here’s the latest on the iRex e-book reader that’s set to be launched in partnership with Barnes & Noble.
- The screen: 8.1-inch touchscreen
- Wireless downloads? Yes, via Verizon
- Where can you buy it? Best Buy, starting next month sometime
- How much? $399
- Other features: content from Barnes & Noble digital catalog, over 1,100 periodicals served up by NewspaperDirect, compatibility with the ePub format
That’s about it for now. We’ll get more info from Nicholas this morning.

More competition = ‘more better’. Good to see things moving along. I’ll be first in line when Apple offers up their take on this product segment.
That looks pretty good – let’s see if it lives up to the promise. If you need someone to do a side-by-side comparison with the Kindle when you get a review unit, just let me know :)
Nobody is interested in making cheaper ebook readers it seems.
Well right now they CAN’T make them cheaper easily. the trick is to get ENOUGH of them flowing into consumer hands so they CAN be made cheaper.
I am curious. will it have free wikipedia access and or web access like the Kindle does? is it lifetime included wireless or limited? Does it cost for the wireless?
Resolution of the screen? color depth? (4shades? 16 shades?)
will it let me view 8.5×11 magazine PDF’s readably?
Will it have a MEMORY CARD and have support for OPEN formats without conversion? The ability to send docs wirelessly via e-mail and the price?
pls. mail me full details of e-book reader & also mention price . & avalibilty of model
It seems that the screen is big. Something similar to amazon Kindle DX, which is 9.2. However both are very expensive to buy. At least this one is a little cheaper. There are also many details missing about the supported formats, resolution and storage capacity. Let’s wait and see.
Many thanks to the lovely Cara-Lee Ruditzky for writing the piece. ,
