The iPod nano has become very popular with the gym crowd. It’s light, doesn’t skip, and is inexpensive enough that if it gets stolen, it’s not the end of the world. The bad news is, many gyms are banning the new version, due to the camera. Seems that recording devices in general are verboten in gym locker rooms, and something small and concealable like an iPod nano is exactly what they are trying to avoid.
So should Apple make a nano without a camera? The features of the new version make it perfect except for that pesky camera. Perhaps gyms could allow you to check your nano before you go into the locker room, and then pick it up on the way out. One word of warning, if you do smuggle your nano in, please don’t forget that there is ‘good naked’ and ‘bad naked’. Oh, and don’t buy the yellow one.

Sounds like hype to me – most folks already have cellphones that take pics and vid, and there’s nothing that the gyms can do about that.
The nano’s now don’t have a camera. Only the 5th generation one. BTW I own the Super bright metallic Yellow nano. It’s like the sh*t colored Zune. You don’t have to worry about it going missing..
My gym has shower stalls…there is no excuse for anyone walking around with their junk exposed. BTW don’t you have to hold the thing in some weird, conspicuous position to take video anyway?
No you don’t have to hold it in Landscape to shoot video you can hold it like you are looking through songs and it will shoot video still.

Gyms are forgetting that there are more cellphones out there with cameras than iPod Nanos. i haven’t hear anything about them banning the iPhone 3GS yet…

If you ban ipods because they have camera’s you also have to ban cellphones.
Well actually a lot of places do ban cellphones with cameras. My mother works for the USDOJ and in court they cannot use a cellphone that has a camera.
If someone wants to video you in the locker room, no amount of banning can stop them.
It’s not hard to tear apart a video camera and stick it in a jym bag, or buy one from an online spy store. Most people will probably just use their cell phones or a non-apple music player.
Protect yourself, don’t walk around exposed. Take a shower at home if you have to.
Apple should remove camera from the nano. Who needs it anyway. That’s what you have The Flip for.
