Here’s a little more info on the Archos 9 Tablet. Apparently it’ll be available here in the US on October 22nd, the same day Windows 7 is available. The price tag is pretty aggressive at $499, too.
That’ll get you an Atom Z510 CPU at 1.1GHz, a 9-inch touchscreen with 1024×600 resolution, 1GB of RAM, 60GB hard drive, Windows 7 Starter, four hours of battery life, and a weight of about 1.75 pounds.
UMPC Portal has a video of the device in action. Looks pretty nice. It seems a little sluggish but some of that might get hammered out before the official release. It’ll never be SUPER fast, though, considering the form factor, but perhaps it’d get a nice place on your coffee table.

That looks pretty damn good to me, provided it can support multitouch and they can get the version of Windows 7 on there that actually supports all the touch stuff. Looks like I might just have to pick one of these up when it comes out. Unless anyone else [crunch] has details about a different device [pad] that I should be considering…
nicely built.
Can’t complain about the load time of FireFox TOO much. It’s a 1.1 GHz processor! I’d be interested in seeing it’s performance with a mobile OS on there. An SD slot would be great too. Other than that it’s very sweet for the price.
I wonder who will come with a CrunchPad VS Archos 9 video first? After all, they are both Atom based with a webcam up front and on-screen keyboard. In theory CrunchPad should have the advantage but with so much flash content out there being optimized for Microsoft’s OS who knows….
These specs are pretty standard for netbooks of and can already be found right now with many more features. User experience is awful and good luck playing flash video (youtube, vimeo) or watching a video…..

1.3 megapixel camera?
I’m not even a major photography buff, but that’s very disappointing — BlackBerry Curves have 2 megapixels and, I must say, they occasionally take breathtaking photos in perfect lighting, but the photos are generally crappy.
Less than 2 megapixels seems like a waste of camera space (even though aficianados know that megapixels aren’t everything, without a decent number pics turn into mud).
1.3 megapixel first isn’t a camera, but a webcam and it’s the standard for all kind of netbooks, even notebooks.
And it’s not a blackberry and is not intended to make photos or videos, but to do a webcam job.
The performance will be adapted to the device and the applications. Use less hungry applications like Chrome instead of Firefox (even if I LOVE Firefox…). It has been showed that it can play 720p videos correctly, so for the price it’s damn nice!
Have you actually confirmed this release?
Here we are barely a week from the release and there is basically nothing on the device. It is not listed yet in any merchant’s site. There aren’t any in-depth reviews and even Archos own website contains the one page marketspeak that has been up for months.
If it is going to release next week, then Archos is really screwing up the marketing of the device.
Can you call it available if there isn’t a single retailer online or off with the product for sale?
Even Amazon, that allows pre-orders months ahead of time doesn’t have a listing.
So far, all I can see is that Archos updated the website.
Maybe they meant, October 22, 2010.
