Good morning! It seems that Google Tweeted last night about a strange and mysterious video purporting to show Google Chrome OS in the flesh. Our thoughts? Damn, this is going to be a fun OS.
From login to browsing to game playing, this little OS seems to be solid, smooth, and actually quite pretty. It’s amazing what a company can do with a few billion dollars and some of the brightest minds in the business.
Also, as MG pointed out, this could be fake as all get out. The video is from July and the Twitter stream is not official. A leak? An accident? A fake? Photoshopping an iTablet is one thing, but a whole video?
UPDATE – Yes, this is fake. In my early morning excitement I didn’t do a quick GIS. Take a look at this image from Wave:

And this one:

It’s either a cut and paste job or they’re both playing the Ludovico defense. Sorry for raising your heart rate.
What we see is a boot up screen with clever “filling a beaker” animation, a login screen with an option for anonymous browsing, presumably an unrecorded guest mode, and then a quick spin through the browser and a desktop version of Google Wave.
The most interesting mode, however, is this “task switcher” screen which seems to be more like an unstructured dock.

As we see there are icons for a camera, calculator, YouTube, a Twitter app, a dictionary, media player, and a weird Android icon which suggests some sort of syncing capabilities. There is also a DVD/CD icon which suggests this will work on much larger machines.

Knoyce!
Good news ?
Stupid noobs trying to make “Knoyce” popular…
Man! This is pig-ugly. Get Marissa forgot to take her medication.
I guess this will be ok, if you never need to do any development or real work.
make that 2. Damn it’s ugly. That big dock in the center of the screen. Ew.
Interesting Stuff we will use it on http://www.spirofrog.de systems as we do for Mail already!
I am sure they will soon launch a corporate business suite
Fake or Real, It is interesting. If its under process, we have to wait for the complete OS. May be we can find still more exciting stuffs…
Very whetting.
Maybe they shouldn’t call it Google Chrome OS. Every time I hear Google Chrome, I think about the browser, and kind of tune out.
However, the OS itself sounds really cool.

This is the game changer!
HTML 5 all the way
i feel something is just not right with the video.. maybe someone using android created this mockup?
For me, it was the fact that there was no roll-over effect on the icons… that’s almost a given.
Oh, I get it… take your deskstop (os and files) vitually anywhere… right? Well why else would you need to sign in to a G account?
Why does it say “Sign up in *tree* simple steps”?
Yeah… obviously a fake… when highlighting Wave the mouse cursor slips underneath the nav, contacts and inbox windows… which screams of AE
Video posted on YouTube 10th July 2009
Are you guys serious? The video on YouTube is 2 months old and the twitter account isn’t even from Google.
This was probably just a fun project for someone.
Doesn’t look too different from a simple Chrome.
Will it support all preipherals and will it run natively?
Actually what I’m curious about is, in application mode, the “G-app store” and the “create a G-app” button.
To me that either tips it as a fake (a really cool, thorough one if that) or makes it really really interesting.
I can photoshop way better than that =]
Honestly? This doesn’t look official at all, and I doubt Google would let this information out by way of tweet about an unofficial YouTube account.
The twitter account you cite as the source is completely, 100% unofficial. Please do a better reporting job next time.
fake ?
Yeah, fake. :0( <-Sad Clown
but hey, you helped TC get those ad impressions, so all is not lost, right?
The twitter account linked to clearly says it is not affiliated with Google.
http://twitter.com/ChromeBrowser
Note to TC, if I do not have it playing with it..its probably a fake especially new OSes in the mobile/laptop spce..
As to speak the screenshot of Google Wave is real.

personally, I believe that a much windows-like interface could be better if Google wants that many windows users will become also (or only) Chrome OS users
–
that’s why, in my ONE YEAR OLD prediction of an (imminent and upcoming) Google OS, I’ve suggested an “independent consols” Google OS that I’ve called “GoOS”:

Good thing it is fake, that looks shit.
i actually kind of liked it.
Chuckle. It was a bit ugly huh?
Having seen the original video and signed up to use google chrome browser to get in on the wave when it hits our shores. I would not use any other than the original as l find it excellent as an all round browser once you understand all the features and links.
Anyone tried wave yet ? Ian
lol the button under the guy’s name says ‘Sing out’ instead of sign out
Because that ‘video’ of the os really looked real, didn’t it. Not.
The Twitter background page says “We really, really hate Microsoft”, and you guys actually considered for more than a second this could be an official Google Team account?
People can be so dense sometimes…
You’re kidding, right? It looked fake. And therefore I’m glad it’s fake.
FYI, here is the list of official google twitter accounts:

Did you notice that “Add Boobies” on the dock at the bottom of the home page?
It’s definitely fake.
Mastermind uber genius (me) proof:
Ze tweeter: http://twitter.com/ChromeBrowser.
Look at the background. Now look at the browser’s address bar(the address bar in the image not yours).See?
Ze URL:http://google-chrome-browser.com/ (VISIT IT).

Now,does that look like Google to you?
You should probably edit the post from saying “Google Tweeted” as the twitter account in question even says its not affiliated with Google in any way.
CrunchGear OWNED!
Honestly, guys, I can’t believe you watched this and thought it was real. The interface is so…. just wrong. The login screen, the boot up screen, the fact that half the screen after login is taken up by your accuont info and launch icons… it’s very very amateurish and if this was actually Chrome OS it would fail big time. I can’t believe you thought this was real. Who are you?
looks like a typical information gathering thing, [identy theft?].
Seems like with this OS anything other than an always-on internet connection severely limits your computing possibilities. Also, i am definitely not a fan of the cartoonishly large icons launch icons. The icon-filled launch screen however is a nice addition. cant eait to see what Google is actually doing with it, but if this is anything like the finished product it will be interesting to say the least
