Guys, I’m really excited. I’m stoked that Microsoft choose me, ME, to host a Windows 7 Launch Party. That’s right, lame ol’ Burns is going to host a Windows 7 party. I just got my confirmation email saying I was a finalist and to head over to HouseParty.com ASAP. Once I filled out all the steps to create a party webpage and invite my guests, I got the email above confirming I’m the coolest person on Earth. Now all I have to do is wait for my pack of party supplies to arrive, which includes a signature edition of Windows 7 Ultimate thankyouverymuch, and watch those fabulous party instructional videos for pointers.

  • … there better be pointy hats

  • I was also selected! That means I’m as cool as Matt!

    • …..AND, my friends are already making fun of me. Oh well, screw them. I get a free copy of Windows 7 Ultimate, and this time around, I won’t even have to bother pirating it.

    • This is a request to all the hosts of the windows7 party…. can you please please please send me ur mail id…. i want that to get the free liscence of 1 year for kaspersky internet security 2010…. please reply before 30th oct…. b’coz offer ends on 30th of oct of this month

    • I hate you guys. I know you both live a 1000 miles away, but I would make it to your Windows 7 party if you had one. Well, as long as I could expense the flight and booze I would.

  • I was selected for the Windows 7 party as well! I will be showing off Snow Leopard at the party too. ;)

  • I am curious how many people are hosting launch parties? They must be sending out quite a few free licenses.

    • My thoughts exactly, I guess they decided to go by the honor system and trusting that people would actually, you know, have a party, and not just drink alone in their basements while installing their free copy of Window 7.

  • Can I sleep on your couch, Matt?

  • I’d like to invite that Cougar Hostess to my party…..my Bukake party.

  • Will there be a video of you watching Windows 7 party videos looking for ideas for your party?

  • How do they know you even have the party?

I want free windows, but I don’t want to have to host a cheesy party (seriously, you would have to have like no dignity left to invite your friends to one of these). What are you going to do, crowd around 1 computer screen? This is the most retarded add campaign ever. Windows is not tupperware. Their instructional party video was awful as well.

But like I said, free windows would be cool. I wonder if you could just set up a bunch of fake e-mail accounts to act as your “friends” and then not host the party, but say you did.

How are they even tracking these?

    • My friends are geeky and will oddly enjoy this kind of thing. Free swag from m$ and we will actually have a projector to do demos properly. Gives me a good excuse to invite my friends over and have a party. That just can’t be a bad thing. We’ll probably crowd around and make fun of the cheesy videos too. Invited a Linux geek too. That oughta make it really interesting + one less tote bag to worry about.

    • I’ve had actually had non-geek friends ask to come to the party. IDK. It might turn out great.

    • Jcar, the point you don’t get is that you can host the party however you want. Get a keg and kick it, then slip in the fact that Windows 7 is pretty cool. Don’t be so concerned about your self image, and certainly don’t take those video’s advice and make the party a terrible infomercial. Microsoft employees aren’t going to come down to your house to see how it’s going.

Obviously Windows 7 is given to those who put in the effort to help promote it. It’s not their problem you don’t want to do it.

  • I’m reminded of that old chestnut about the comparison of winning a flame war…

  • Of course, you ocould always take my view of it – get your friends around, for just like a gathering, tell them that Windows 7 is really cool (you can do this in a REALLY quiet voice if you prefer) and then just get drunk while listening to music played through Windows 7 Media Centre connected to your big-ass stereo!

  • I was selected too, I plan on making my party a drinking and gaming party. Gaming on an Xbox 360, people waiting for their rotation will get to play with Windows 7. Also I plan on showing off the Zune software and the new Zune HD (which arrives for me today). When should we expect our copy of Windows 7?

  • I’ve set up a website http://www.windows7party.com to pay homage to a truly awful idea and even worse advert. Perhaps Matt would like to contribute? Party on, dude.

  • Seems the selection process wasn’t that selective. That said, I still can’t complete my invite at houseparty.com. Were they swamped, or is it just a firefox problem?

  • Planning my own “Party Like It’s Windows 7″; wrestling with the internal debate of “Are my friends just mocking me by not responding, even though I asked ’s’il vous plaît’, or is the HouseParty invitation stuck in their spam filter…”

    I MAY NEVER KNOW.

  • you weren’t the only one to get an e-mail like that. The funny thing is I also use Gmail, and my screen cap looks very similar! I cannot wait for the free copy in the mail!

  • Yeah screw Windows 7, Snow Leopard is where it’s at… that is if you don’t mind the taste of Apple’s DICK in your mouth.

  • I recieved my party pack today after I complained to Steve Ballmer via email that the Caribbean was not represented in the list of regions eligible to participate.

I posted pics of the party pack here at my blog:

  • I see there are a lot of closet pc’ers in this forum
Mac user are really going to hate this article http://www.pcworld.com/article/173206/_Still_Any_Mac_Bigots_Study_Finds_Windows_PCs_In_Mac_Homes.html?tk=rss_news

There used to be something no self-respecting Mac owner would do: Admit to owning a Windows PC. Now, a whopping 85 percent of Mac owners ‘fess up.

What happened to Windows-hating Mac users? I suppose they still exist, but as Macintosh has grown in market share, true devotees seem harder to find. Obviously, society is in decline.

According to NPD Group’s “2009 Household Penetration Study,” released yesterday:

•12 percent of U.S. computer-owning households now own a Mac, up from 9 percent in 2008.
    •Nearly 85 percent of Mac households also own a Windows-based PC. ? ?
•Two-thirds of Apple households own three or more computers.
•Only 39 percent Windows PC households how three or more computers.
•Mac owners are also more mobile, with 72 percent owning a notebook, compared with 60 percent of Windows PC households.
•The average Mac household owns twice as many consumer electronics devices as the average computer-owning household: 48 to 24.
Does it surprise anyone that Mac households also have larger incomes? While 36 percent of Mac owners report household incomes greater than $100,000, only 21 percent of total households make the same claim.

So while today’s Mac users may be a tad less devoted that those of years’ past, they have more money and spend it on many more devices than average consumers. And that includes Windows PCs.

Always knew that mac was used for a status symbol and that they really uses a pc!!!!
