When the FCC took apart the Zune HD, we noted that the test unit had “For our princess” written on the inside of the shell. Nobody knew what to make of it at the time, but now that it’s in the production units it’s clear that it wasn’t a one-time thing. As it turns out, it’s a memorial for a Zune team member who passed away during the device’s development. That was really nice, Microsoft. Just one more reason to love this thing.

Very nice tribute. Well done.
You guys are way late on this one.
It’s the thought that counts.
i’m really glad the font wasn’t in comic sans
That’s quite heart warming.
OK, I’m confused. Apple has become the evil empire and Microsoft is producing decent products and a tribute like this.
What’s next? Dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria!
Not to be “that guy” but I’d imagine they did it just so one day a tester would open it up, see it, leak the story and get a “wow, nice job MS!” from people around the world. I doubt they upped the production costs of the unit just to be nice…businesses don’t operate that way.
Ouch, I was really curious about this when it launched, but every site had this on launch day. Didn’t you guys have it here too before?
well we all knew about the inscription – but I hadn’t heard about its meaning. if it’s late, that only means we’re late in our condolences.
Ok really, I’m a huge Apple fun but hats off to the Zune dev team on this one, really well done.
Apple should put a memorial for the employee that was murdered for taking one of the first iphones home.
Actually Lol’d.
Me too….see you in hell my friend :)
