We try not to cover too many concept cars and devices, but sometimes it’s just too compelling. I’ve always liked Subarus, personally, and although I’ve pledged not to buy a car until I can get a full electric, I might have to go back on that if this Tourer hybrid goes to production. I hope they find a better name, though, it’s a bit “Rural Juror” for me. But gullwings, baby, gullwings!
It’d be a pretty traditional hybrid, as unexciting as that sounds, and it would have a full-sized 2L, 4-cylinder boxer engine as well as two power plants, 10 and 20kW, for electric propulsion. It will of course be all wheel drive.
It just looks awesome to me. A practical, roomy AWD Subaru, rocking gullwings? Man, if I don’t get one, at least I’ll see them all over the place because they’re so awesome. Assuming they ever get made, that is.

Why haven’t we seen more cars with doors like this? Is there any impact on the amount of space it takes to actually open compared to what we have now that could possibly be an issue?
Gullwings take less space in a side by side parking scenario to open the doors completely. In other words you can park closer to your neighbor and still get out easier than you could with a traditional door. But Devin nailed the most important point: FREAKING GULLWINGS. Want.
Put me down for one, please. ASAP!
If made and true to this form I will buy this the day it comes out. Subaru’s are awesome but the gas bill for my Tribeca on 20’s can get ugly. Ps. My friend is still driving my 98 outback, Subaru’s just need regular service and synthetic oil and they last forever
Do want! Do want!
from the side with the doors closed it looks like AlfaRomeo Brera…or is just me?
We haven’t seen any other car like this because the weight increases dramatically in order to make the car stiff enough to hold it’s shape, either in handling or in a crash. It’s similar, but worse, then the reason convertibles are so heavy. Taking away structural integrity means you have to make up for it by adding significantly more supporting structures on the outside of the opened area
does the flux capacitor come standard?
Needs a sensor for low-height parking garages.
