I don’t use my garage very often, but I am a pretty forgetful person. So it’s not uncommon for me to leave my garage door open all night, revealing its precious contents to passers-by. Thankfully I haven’t been burgled yet. And now, thanks to a new Instructable, I can make my own “Hey dummy, you left your garage door open” reminder system!
How to install a “garage door open” indicator is a pretty clever idea. An open switch activates a small but annoying light in the master bedroom. If the garage door is open, you’ll see it when you lie in bed. It’s unobtrusive, but extremely functional!

That’s a good idea for a single family home where the garage isn’t far from the location you want this light to be, but in a two story home where the garage is on the other side of the house, this isn’t practical.
For $30, you can purchase a wireless device which does the same thing here, and have it installed in less than 2 minutes.

Once someone steals your crap you’ll be more aware of when the door is left open. Right now you don’t seem to care too much about what you have in your garage or if it gets pilfered.
I have my garage door wirelessly tied into my alarm system, so I can tell it’s not closed if the system isn’t ready to arm. Cost was less than the sears thing.
But if you come home in the middle of the night after hours of manly amusement, you wouldn’t want to set the alarm of when opening the garage door :0
What about a photo sensor that closes the door automatically after 5 mins at night?
It’s called the Doorminder. I have one and it works perfectly.
