Be sure to set your alarm clock for around 6am this Friday, for at 6:15am NASA will, in the immortal words of Matt Drudge, “bomb the moon.” No, we’re not talking about some dumb Hollywood (redundancy alert!) scenario, but the most exciting part of the Lunar CRater Observation and Sensing Satellite (LCROSS) program: the lunar impact.
NASA will webcast the event on its Web site, so you don’t even have to get out of your pajamas to see the action.
I think it’s fairly obvious that my knowledge of NASA-related news is somewhat limited, but I can appreciate a good lunar impact with the rest of ‘em.

6:15am huh. When did the world consolidate down to only 1 time zone?
6:15 a.m. EDT UTC – 4/3:15 a.m. PDT UTC – 7
If there are any Brazilians:
7:15 horário de Brasilia. (UTC – 3)
Sometime around 4:30pm UST (Universal Standard Time) yesterday. Surprising you didn’t get the memmo.
Really?
Even though this is the World Wide Web, I’m pretty sure this is an American site and thus (and appropriately for the audience) the time is reported in EST. This is just an editing thing and nothing to get in high dudgeon about. Yes, I suppose he could have used Universal Time, but then wouldn’t we be discriminating against people living in a galaxy far, far away?
;-)
Entire US population does not live on the east coast Skaplan.
-.- I hate time-zones. I wish we all removed daylight saving time (that has close to no purpose) and stayed with GMT+/-
Even if you get it right with the daylight saving time you never know if the person who gave you the time has taken that into account.
When did the world decide that the moon was anyones to bomb is the real question… The moon does not belong to us! Stop f’ing around!
Aha! But what you don’t realize is that the moon isn’t America. So clearly it’s OK.
(sarcasm, of course)
According to the rules of Eddie Izzard, it does.
There’s a flag.
I agree with you Michelle!!! I do not like the idea. It scares me and I protest! What gives anyone (i.e. Country a right to do that. Seeing that the U.S. or N.A.S.A. doesn’t “own” the moon) to experiment with something that “is” not theirs! FBS!

You can learn more about LCROSS and student involvement with NASA scientists @ http://www.lewisleanring.org They’ve tried to build lessons about the moon surrounding the LCROSS mission.
Yeah, I can spell. http://www.lewislearning.org
Re. previous comments: Why can’t people use UTC time. If you are going to talk science, please use universal information. Every country has EDT, EST PDT, etc, etc… There is only one UTC.
This goes for NASA too, come on guys, get with the program.
RE: the time zone issue: I think this it’s really immature. It’s normal and reasonable for the source of a piece of information to use its own time zone and most educated people know where NASA Kennedy is.
As for the objection to “bombing the moon,” this interpretation is silly AND immature. It’s a scientific probe.
