Welcome to CrunchGear’s seedy electronic shop in the touristy area of town. Today we have a special deal for one lucky commenter: a new 16GB black Zune HD. Read on to figure out how to win.
UPDATE – Congrats to Aaron for winning the Zune. He’s currently running with an RCA Lyrica. I don’t even think RCA is in business anymore.
I want this to go to a good home so I need you to describe your current, janky music/media player in comments and I’ll pick one lucky winner at random. If you own an iPod or iPod Touch, you’re automagically disqualified. We’ll close the contest on Wednesday at Noon Eastern.

Me please! I’m currently using a 4 GB Samsung YP-P2 with a cracked screen… I have to try to guess right where to touch the screen to make any changes.. lol
I’m rockin one of the small 8 gb zune, pick me, for i need something new to stash all of my media on. it would be enjoyed on a daily basis from school – work.
I don’t even have an MP3 player, but I want one so I can have the latest and best in that technology.
My current media player is the CD player in my 2000 Nissan pickup. Oh, and I can whistle pretty well too.
I’ve got a 4gb Sansa Sandisk Clip. Yup, beat that! Cost me a whole $30 at Walmart! Pretty much only gets used for exercising but, that Zune HD should would get plenty of use! Oh wait, I’ve also got a neon pick iPod Mini (B&W screen) which I found for free in hopes of it working – no luck.
With a name like Zen, you’d think it was a well balanced and complete media player, but with a meager 2GB of space, it can barely hold it’s own when put up against the mighty Zune. One letter makes a big difference. I hope to combine my Zen with U and end up with a Zune. Now that would be complete.
I’ve got a little Sansa mp3 player that can hold barely any of my music and is on its last legs. The screen is so scratched I can barely see what I’m listening to. I’m dying for a Zune HD but can’t budget for it right now.
I have been wanting some sort music player for a long time. I was going to buy one at christmas. So me house. Also being the first commenter is a big deal.
I live in the uk (hope that doesn’t discourage you). I live in a small two bedroom house in city of hull. Just got wifi and finally got a laptop. I hate iPod as I think they are over rated and apple want way to much money.
So please consider me for that wonderful zune.
(ready to die any time) Dell Axim :)
Walkman MD player baby
I’ve got a 512mb creative zen and an HTC 8525 with a non functioning screen.
doesn’t get more busted than that my friends.
I wake up every morning, toss my socks and shoes on, and go for a jog with my Sony Discman. It has like… 40 seconds of skip protection, so it’s a good thing I’m severely overweight and can’t run more than 35 seconds at a clip. Anyway, I could probably run a lot farther with a Zune HD. I imagine.
Right now I have a 3 year old RCA Lyra RD1072 256MB Personal Digital Player.
256MB — ’nuff said.
I have a sansa e260 and it doesn’t even connect to the internet or anything! Gosh! I’d love to switch to zune marketplace from rhapsody so i can get 10 free downloads a month. I can haz zune?!
I have a CD player in my car. I am also well versed in the art of drumming on the steering wheel of a car and tapping me foot.
I’ve got a Casio MP4 Player? It doesn’t even have a name that I can find. Found it at a fleamarket a few years back. :(
I use my f’ing Blackberry and it sucks! Not only is it a poor media manager, the damn trackball on my new Tour sucks and can’t scroll left or right very well!
I’d love the Zune HD. My current player is a Zune (generation 1) in brown. I love the device though. Yeah, I’ve taken the beating over the years with jokes about the “brick” or “sh*t” color but the interface is awesome and the audio/video is great. And its never locked up on me (except on January 1, 2009) like so many others with iPods. And I should add that I’m a Mac guy so I have to boot up the virtual Windows partition to manage the device. Talk about brand loyalty! I’d happily give my old Zune to a new home since its really a great device and works perfectly still.
Until recently, I was the proud owner of a NOMAD Jukebox Zen – and it was alright for a 2002 mp3 player… Black and white display, no video, no touchscreen, but decent sound quality and a user-replaceable battery (take that, iPod!). Unfotunately, one drop on a concrete floor while the thing was playing left me the proud owner of a NOMAD Zen shaped brick :(
I currently use a Sony CD Walkman Model D-EJ100. I still use Cd’s because well, i have tons of CD’s! =] i dont mind it but an mp3 player doesn’t sound so bad either. let alone free?!
I still use a Walkman tape player. The Zune would be nirvana for me!
I’ve never own an MP3 player before (23yrs). Let this be my first, please……
I had an original Zune that my wife decided looked better being smashed against the floor 3 times. She bought me another one to replace that one and someone stole that one out of my car :( Now I am Zuneless. I have been drooling over the new specs but cannot afford one.
I forgot to mention…The wife left me a couple years ago. This Zune (if I won it) would be in no danger :)
5-year old 2nd gen iPod Nano that has to be reset everytime I load podcasts onto it or it freezes up.
I have had a brown 30gb first generation zune for about three years now. Works fine, but I guess I’ve dropped it too much so now it won’t let me add or delete any songs.
I have a 256 mb AAA battery powered MP3 player that is older than my house!
Simple, I have a generation one Zune. It holds a charge for about 10 minutes and then it’s a brick. What good is it if I have to leave it plugged in all the time? Exactly.
I don’t have any music player so I listen only through the computer or radio and to have the zune can help me a lot. thanks
Hi. I am still using a Sansa 8GB (a christmas gift from my girlfriend from 2006). It’s a good little player. It holds most of my songs but no Videos… It’s still in good shape with a bulky case. I have since wanted to replace it for an ipod touch but I dont want to cuz that’ll make my gf feel sad. However, it’ll be totally alright if I win your Zune HD and my gf can spend sometime with it. (She’s using a Ipod Nano 3rd gen).
Thanks for the offer. Hope i’ll win.
my last music media player was an insignia 4gb with a teeny tiny screen unfortunatly it got waterlogged and i tossed it (drying it out didn’t work). haven’t had any money for a replacement as i fall in to the ranks of starving students
well i live in india and we dont get much of the love..creative and samsung are the only ones we get here..(i hate IPODs so its automatically relegated)..so i had bought a creative zen vision w like 4 years ago..which is now totally bust..the 4 industrial screws which held it have been replaced with duct tape and the back button keeps pausing music.
not to mention that the screen is dented and is with many dead pixels..
so i would like to replace my old industrial styled player with the ZUNE HD..so please send some love to INDIA..:)
I am currently using a Insignia Sport that has only 2 GB of space and the headphone jack is messed up and only plays out of one ear.
I bought a 30gig Zune when they 1st came out, but that got stolen from my locker.. This wouldn’t be for me, but for a friend of mine whose Zune got stolen after my car got broken into on new years day. What a way to start the year! =]
I have a CD player in my car (1 disk) and my computer which isn’t so great for a portable media device :)
Also, Do USB drives count as a portable media device? haha
My current media player is my Blackberry Storm which all of you in the Crunch family seem to universally recognize as the high-water mark of jankiness and crapitude. The navigation in song or frequently in my case in audiobook/podcast is absolutely horrendous and its connectivity fiercely sucks. The so called “audio boost” that it allows you to engage in order to bring the volume up to a tolerable level completely blows out the quality of the audio. I should also add that it chews up the battery which I can ill afford as it just barely makes it through the day as it is.
It will be at least 9-12 months until I can unload this beast for some delicious Android based phone so I would love to have something nice and functional to cheat on my Storm with while I wait out its hellish tenure as my lifeline to the world.
I have a 40Gb hard drive based player the size of a deck of cards but 10 times as heavy. The thing is too heavy for a pocket so it sits next to my phone/pencil holder/calculator and pager on my bat belt.
Whats really neat is that if hold the player at a certain angle, the drive makes serious metal on metal noise that oddly compliments most Assemblage 23 tracks. Hmmm…. perhaps a new music genre, drive scratching!
I’m a dork. I need help soon.
Im still having to burn cd’s, so if im not in my car or around a cd player im outta luck!!! Who knows maybe this will be my first time winning anything, which would be good since i really need it!!
I have a broken ipod touch 1stgen 16gb. It was sad to see it go and I have yet to buy another one.
Sansa C240. Works great but a bit small at 1gb.
I have no portable media player (unless you count my janky laptop).
A 20GB Rio Karma with a scroll wheel that doesn’t scroll and a knuben that doesn’t knub.
Looking to update my Stone from creative. It comes in at 1gb is great for the gym but have to always change up what is on the player. With no screen it is best using just shuffle mode. It would be nice to have the new OLED screen of the ZUNE. I have been looking at getting one just saving up some cash.
I’m using my Nokia N80 (yup… that old) with a microsd card of 512MB. :) first and only mp3 player i’ve ever had…
I have an mpio mp3 player. 256mb. it’s twice the size of my thumb. And it charges via headphone jack to usb coupler only. and I lost it. d’oh!
What I like about it, it’s tiny.
What I don’t like about it. I can’t use it unless I grow my nails out a bit. and I lost the charging coupler. again. d’oh!
an RCA Lyra w/ 256MB – it’s an actual joke. Please save me :(
I only have Sony Ericsson W800i as my phone, camera and MP3 player…how sad is that?
I have a old zune ( proof: http://social.zune.net/member/JonathanNation ) and would like a new one.
None at the moment, saving up to replace my stolen Sony Walkman NWHD3. Yea, I know would would want to steal that… My thoughts exactly.
Well I am still using my Napster Player, I think it’s a YP910 if I remember right. This player only syncs ( if that’s what u can call it, with the Napster software . That we all know hasn’t been updated in years. The way this player works, I have separate executables to erase songs, format the device or rebuild the library internally. 4 program to do what the zune software has built in. I’m like a technological neandratal when it comes to media players
I’m using my old Sony Walkman with cassettes. Help me into the digital age.
I have a sony CD player that is hooked up to my car via a tape deck. Every time there’s a bump on the road the songs skips 5 seconds :(
I really need this.
I have a original brown Zune30…before that I had a RCA Lyra RD1080 128 MB expanded to 1GB with SD card. Before that I had this RCA mp3 player http://gizmodo.com/248703/exclusive-rca-lyra-player-pictures-lyra-in-the-wild …yup with 64MB compactflash card…held about 20 mp3 at low bitrate. I would love to get ZuneHD as I am hoping santa bring me one. Thanks.
