Boy howdy could I use this thing at CEATEC today. Running on a Windows Mobile handheld, Toshiba has a real-time voice translation demonstration. It worked quite well. How much longer until we get the Star Trek universal translators?

I have to say that’s very impressive. It can probably only be used with simple sentences, but that’s still awesome.
Is this thing for real ?
With any luck, later versions will use granular sampling of the audio input to make the translation sound more like the person’s actual voice.
