I make no secret of my bag fetish. I love ‘em. And what with Seattle winters being as cold and wet as a dog’s nose, I’ve been thinking for a while of getting a weather-resistant laptop bag. My Manhattan Portage is far from a sponge, but I still feel the need to hold my umbrella over it when it’s pouring. I’d rather have something a little more… like this.
The new Buran, from well-known bagmasters Chrome, is lined with “truck tarp,” which sounds pretty waterproof to me. In addition to that, the laptop-holding bit is further protected from the elements, in case… I don’t know. Just in case. It looks like it ratchets down pretty tight, too — I appreciate that, don’t need the cover flopping around all over the place. Makes a noise, and that’s bad news if you’re a ninja.
It’s also a very handsome bag regardless of its ruggedness. I suppose that makes it ruggedly handsome, like Daniel Craig and myself. We’ll see how handsome and rugged it is in real life, anyhow, when I review it.

I feel sorry for people without adequate baggage for their electronic goodies in Seattle. Good lord it rains a lot there.
Perfectly sunny day? Make sure you bring a rain-coat! lol
Devin – fellow Seattleite here. Where can you pick this up locally?
Not sure, I’ll ask my guy. It just came out though, so don’t look too hard.
Looks like they retail at Recycled cycles, Sneakery, and Velo Bike Shop.
But the Buran is only available online right now since it just came out. I’ll include street availability in my review if it isn’t already out.
Have you tried Trager bags? I think they are quite nicely made, and they are local to you there in Seattle.
I have the Citizen bag from Chrome and that thing is built like a tank. That truck tarp stuff is really nice.
I love the basic outline of the Chrome bag, but something about it looks a little too much like Germany in the 1930’s…. Otherwise, very cool.
I highly recommend checkin gout an SF company called SFbags.com (or Waterfield Designs). I’m a serious bag hound and finally landed the perfect one when I found their Cargo bag. Great pockets, solid as a rock and nice “cool factor”. Worth every penny IMHO. (Rains plenty here too!)

Thanks for the review. I miss Seattle, even the rain sometimes.
Sounds like a good option for the Twin Cities too.
Not as wet, but ALOT colder.
Very good and rough looking bag indeed, however would be fantastic if it be evrironmentally friendly as well which it does not look. There is a brand out there (German) called Vaude, which embraces design and durability as well as mother nature!
If you leave me your contact address I will send you one for yourself so you can see for yourself!
Cheers Tim
Hey, looks like a great bag. Im in Bellingham and my metropolis rocked all last winter at keeping my laptop dry. But its huge, and not the most comfy, and my laptop gets pretty banged up even in a built sleeve.

So i’ve been looking for something less messenger more IT-guy. I think I’m going to order this in the next couple day (the rains have returned).
Think blues, country, funk, jazz, reggae, rock here. ,
