My Windows 7 Launch Party kit is finally here! As you may recall, I was selected to host one of these Windows 7 Launch Parties. I’m so lucky.
Oh, man, look at all this stuff. Streamers, balloons, party bags, playing cards, a puzzle, and a poster!!! Microsoft sure knows how to throw a party. Add some jello shots and a beer bong, and this party should be crazy. Oh, and the fact that I now have a full, legal copy of Windows 7 Ultimate 32- and 64-bit makes me smile too.
Now all I should probably do is watch those instructional videos again for some “helpful tips.” Then print off some low-res posters and fun quizzes. Finally, I should probably find some friends that actually wanna party with Windows 7.
These packs have been shipping out to pre-selected hosts all week. Hosts should receive an email with the UPS tracking info before hand. According to a note on HouseParty.com – who is actually organizing all these shindigs – packages are still being shipped so don’t worry if you haven’t gotten yours yet. You should get it by the October 15th. Or you could always buy one on eBay.

Did they include both the 32 and 64-bit media? The launch event copies have a CD key that will work for both but only have a 32-bit disc. I won’t have 64-bit media until the launch date.
No, both versions are included.
Anybody out there still paying for an OS…?!
Yeah, every dumbass with an Apple in their house, and pretty much every enterprise environment in the world are (one way or another).
Yep. When you buy a computer … you pay for an OS … as stupid as it sounds
Or : build your own linux computer
@anderson : jealous about ppl having an Apple?
“….sure knows how to THROW a party….”
Hahaha… that was a super quick correction… good…
BTW, i liked the RC… Now, looking forward to buying final release….
Hey Brian, make sure to look thoroughly in your box. When I received my Party Kit, I thought I only received a 32-bit disc myself. I was getting ready to call Microsoft and throw a fit until I took everything out and found the 64 bit disc chilling in the bottom of the box.
My party is in 7 days, but it probably won’t be as exciting as it’s supposed to be. I’m going to fire up some Hulu, pop some red wine, and take pictures of everyone watching from the laptop hooked up to the tv through HDMI.
Media center is pretty cool in 7 (Vista too).
My pics aren’t as good as Matt’s but you can check em out here: http://www.hdtvbeat.com/sidenote-i-just-got-my-windows-7-launch-party-kit/2009/09/
I cant wait till I get mine! Hopefully today!
How can I get one of this, please??? It’s released?
Is that a signature from Steve Ballmer on the DVD package – awesome!
What’s awesome about his signature?
You, sir, lack a sense of humor.
Andreas, agreed. Awesome!
i heard about a windows 8 release which will happen shortly. I read this at techgiraffe.com… not bad.. apparently, they will be supporting 128 bit…

Will you please shut the fuck up and stop spamming this shit?
NOBODY here is stupid enough to believe you and NOBODY is going to visit your shitty site over this, ESPECIALLY now that you have spammed it several times already in FOUR day old article.
If anything, half the people here just BLACKLISTED your site for constantly spamming this garbage.
In short, please go the hell away and die in a fire.
Thanks
Truely exciting! The R C has worked out very well for me thus far!
Agree RC is pretty decent. Much better than Vista for sure. Meanwhile check out the MS Windows 7 Ads and a hilarious take on the house party Ad – http://wp.me/pw0hs-6V
My full version killed my computer!! I got my package yesterday. I previously had Windows 7 RC which worked amazing on my laptop and gave my system a score of 3.9 (lowest rating was due to processor speed, highest rating was graphics card). I did a clean install of the 32-bit Ultimate Edition that came with my party pack, and now I get a rating of 1.0 (lowest rating is now the graphics card)! I don’t know what Microsoft changed between these versions, but I’m extremely upset and I hope this doesn’t happen to everybody. I have 15 people coming to my party which *should* have a flawless edition of Win7 Ultimate running. I’m calling the “special” support number they sent with the package (which specifically brags about calling the “special” number instead of the number on the software packaging). I hope Microsoft can figure this out before launch. The full Win7 didn’t even automatically download the drivers it needed like Win7 RC did. Anyone else have the same issue?
One more thing. On top of all this, the “aero” features that we all love about the new Win7 are disabled on my system because of the low performance rating! I don’t get the cool transparent title bars, nor the thumbnail previews on the taskbar.
You need to identify what kind of graphics card your laptop has and install the vendor’s drivers for it. Then run the performance rating again, and you should be able to enable Aero.
If you have generic drivers installed, no effects can be enabled.
You have no idea how funny that entire post sounds to a mac user. I’m not a hater, but honestly, that was funny.
I installed Snow Leopard on ym Mac Mini and now my Printer is acting up and my USB Keyboard keeps messing up! The people on the Apple Forums are clueless!
Not so funny now is it Marko? And yes, I AM having these problems.
Sorry you’re having trouble Akuma.
I find drivers etc. to be a gas. I’m also tired of hearing about this drama from my poor mother who struggles with her PC on a daily basis.
Number of times I’ve been to an Apple Forum: 2
Number of times I’ve been to a PC Forum on her behalf: 1 Bazillion
marko, you could hv bought your mom a Mac. I think if you spent 1 bazillion times to a pc forum, then that warrants you spending that money and buy a Mac instead of whinning about PC.
Believe it or not, but a Mac uses drivers too. You have extremely limited hardware (and software for that matter) which is why most or all of what you need is included in the OS.
I find your extremely limited knowledge of computers to be a gas. Suck on that.
Suck on that? Seriously? If you don’t find this party kit fundamentally asinine and if you’re defending the endless challenges that an average user has to go through to be on a PC then we don’t have much to discuss. Troubleshoot this, brah.
@Marko: “Brah?” Are you f’ing serious?
@Blipper: I’ve been bringing back “brah.” Thus far the results have been hilarious.
“if you’re defending the endless challenges that an average user has to go through to be on a PC”
Kinda like the endless challenges on a Mac? Sorry but MACOSX has a hell of a lot of problems as well.
The “avcerage user” just goes to webpages, listens to music, watches movies, and writes reports, something Windows can easily handle, anything more advanced and chances are the user knows what to do regardless.
I love how people feel a Mac is different from a PC, thats like me installing Linux on my computer and claiming its not a PC.
ROFL can’t we all just get along? Didn’t mean to stir up so much trouble. Thanks to Jeremy for the advice! I should have tried more tinkering before I asked for help here, and I figured it had to be a driver, but trusted in Win7 to find it (which it did in RC).
UPDATE: With all that said, everything is back to normal–got the 3.0 perf rating and Aero is automatically enabled. As for the Mac vs. PC debate–they both have their pros and cons, and I’ll shut up there.
you have to reinstall your graphics card when u install 7
This is cute. Would you be just as excited with a plain box or do the party favors really add to the excitement?
That’s one of the worst pictures preview scripts I ever saw.
I got mine two days ago, and upped my “preview” install of Windows 7, to a full, registered version. :-)
I am looking forward to the party. Even invited our token Linux guy. :-) Good day for some fun, and some BBQ. :-)
I got my party pack yesterday (I live in London). I guess they can’t send balloons internationally for some weird reason as I didn’t get any, but I have the napkins, bags etc.
Anyway, I’m very grateful to not have to spend £229 on the Ultimate edition of Windows 7, so thanks Microsoft! I just installed it now (64-bit version) – works fine. Am using a Dell Studio XPS 13 that’s a few months old.
I will be holding a party, though am also likely to be getting DJ Hero for Wii when it’s released on the 30th, so will probably have a combined ‘launch party’ for them both.
Guess what most people will be coming to the party for…
+1
I got mine too XD
If anyone wants to make a few bucks, I would REALLY like to purchase the playing cards. Get in touch via my facebook or @kenop on twitter :)
I received my pack. The Windows 7 napkins were there. But where is my Vista toilet toll?
“Microsoft is planning to make Windows 8 a 128-bit operating system, according to details leaked from the software giant’s Research department. The discovery came to light after Microsoft Research employee Robert Morgan carelessly left details of his work on the social-networking site LinkedIn. His page read: ‘Working in high-security department for research and development involving strategic planning for medium and long-term projects. Research & Development projects including 128-bit architecture compatibility with the Windows 8 kernel and Windows 9 project plan. Forming relationships with major partners: Intel, AMD, HP and IBM.’ It has since been removed.”
(article from slashdot.org)
Excuse me, I think you got some bullshit on your post.
Does anyone else think that this party pack is A. more like a tupperware party and less like a major OS release and B. totally lame?
Streamers? Posters?…How very 1962 of Microsoft.
How long, do you think, until Apple turns this into a commercial?
I also get my party pack yesterday. But i dont have balloon, playing cards. As of m from India so is their any country specific party kit .??
Just make sure it’s a drug-free party.
When is the Windows Vista release party?
I don’t understand wtf the point is of a Windows launch party. That’s pretty fucking lame. It’s just another iteration of a fundamentally crappy operating system. Even Apple wouldn’t do this.
Who cares about Apple OSes? Wintel FTW…
It’s called Marketing. Breaking through the clutter and being different usually gets you noticed… Also, this is just one part of a larger campaign. Different approaches for different demographics. If you think it sucks it probably wasn’t meant for you to like.
That said, corporations work with agencies and vendors all the time. I’m sure Houseparty.com ran the entire thing for Microsoft.
gud……………… rock d party………….
I can hear the poon drying up from here..
+10
I’m sorry, but this may be the gayest thing I have ever seen. Who the hell is doing marketing at Microsoft?
gays for gays obviously, silly.
i think this idea is so horrible it’s great. always need an excuse to attend a free party. i don’t understand why people are shitting on burns’ parade (wait don’t answer i know why…people suck all around. m$ fans and apple fans and all these i’m so much cooler and better than you. geez). i mean i should have tried to get win 7 for free.
My Party Pack hasn’t arrived yet but i’m super stoked. I don’t plan on having a real party but, just by coincidence at the same time i scheduled the party on HouseParty my football team plays. Random timing, i know. I agree that the party is lame and anyone who puts the streams up around their house has definitely earned the right to be called a ‘PC’ but I did this for the free software. I’ve managed to finagle 5 free windows 7 keys (4 i got over a month ago of the full retail version) for all of my home computers. I don’t plan on paying for windows anytime soon.
party will should be crazy
nice type
Oh the humanity. So this thing is real. I feel so sorry for all those people “starring” the instruction videos and all the best for the ones throwing these parties: I hope you will be better some day.
Stupid MS didn’t have this party pack offer here in Finland, I would be SO there throwing this party for all my friends.
Both of them.
I didn’t get accepted, so I’m going to throw my own party party with my own operating system, with blackjack and hookers. In fact, forget the operating system and the blackjack.
Or you could just buy Windows 7 Professional for $30 with your old .edu address from college
what a waste of money, no wonder MS’ software is not “free”
wrap that party kit up, and bring it on over…Party over here! lol
Yup, I saw the flick, party planning how to give a , using the MS DTD on how to give a with words such as and the like, at http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/window-on-windows/?p=1587&tag=nl.e550
Thought it was a huge joke, at first. A spoof. But apparently, somebody’s serious, eh?
And I hear, they’re already working on Windoze 8, and 9.
OOops editing required: give a < party > using the MS DTD on how to give a < party > with words such as < activity > and the like
Anybody out there still paying for an OS…?!
Let’s not bury XP as yet. Let the Windows 7 roll. Decision on XP can be taken then.
The funniest items in the party pack are the three trial software DVDs at the bottom of the box: they’re all antivirus packages.
The colors look very Marioesk.
i know!!!! thought the same thing. although this is the ultimate cheese i happen to like this idea. it wasn’t as horrible as i thought and although i laughed hard, i think it’s good they’re doing this. go wintel 7.
It’s not a party without proper rubbers.
Party safe people!
i got my package today, but i don’t plan on doing the party shown in the video
my party is all about
65 inch hdtv
Xbox360
Beer
Beer
women
friends
then a drinking game, the winner gets the win 7 bag and signature edition (got my copy a week ago from pr)
People are really doing these launch parties for Win7?! If the OS was worth a damn, you wouldn’t need balloons and party hats to drum up hype for it.
sort of like including party hats in a pack of underwear…
whoever thought up this idea needs to be tarred and feathered. that goes for whoever okayed the idea too.
When did marketing become giving away a bunch of crap that will end up in the landfill. Why don’t they invest on building a better product instead of stupid marketing material?
hahahaha… suckers. I’ve been running 7 Ult. 64-bit RTM at home now since August. MSDN FTW!!
seriously though — not a single issue, no crashes, blah blah blah. 7 rocks.
Has anyone opened the playing cards? I’m curious to know if they have different back patterns on them based on the nightmare-inducing Windows 7 background pictures (the ones on the poster).
The puzzle is oddly cool though.
ohh M$…
Nothing compares to opening a new mac = a known fact
Except actually trying to OPEN a ******* Mac to upgrade it >.<
Have a MacBook Pro (pre-unibody SD card edition – mistake on Apple’s part), flip the battery cover, swap out hard drive, memory easy to upgrade too. The iMac is even easier to upgrade RAM.
Can’t read, Akuma?
Yeah yeah, any laptop that CAN’T upgrade it’s ram or hdd easily, or easily replace the abttery, has no damn right to exist. I was talking about desktops.
As for the iMac, you call THIS ( http://www.vimeo.com/2252036 ) easy? Easier than a laptop? What are you on, I just need to take out a single screw on the back of my laptop to replace the ram.
And try upgrading my damn Mac Mini.the damn thing is a puzzle to open.
Finally, these are still nowhere NEAR as easy to upgrade as a PC, I have seen models where the PC is in the screen before, like an iMac, and opened them, they were a sinch to open and upgrade, nothing like what was shown in the video.
The iPhone is also the only cellphone I know what you can’t replace the battery easily, hell, its SOLDERED on! Not an issue? My friend’s iPhone can’t hold a charge anymore, and Apple wants $100 to replace it, sounds like an issue to me.
I am so mad I signed up and didn’t get picked guess ill have to sail the seven seas and pirate a copy thanks ms for making me do it
I am very curious how Microsoft determine who’s getting this kits?
WOW, does it come with the new hardware needed to run the crappy OS??
My three year old $400 laptop has no problems running Windows 7, try to fail some more.
I cant wait to give it a go. prob like a teenager, has loads of problems..
Here’s my unbox: http://bit.ly/4iHJfP
Since when did Microsoft start hiring Martha Stewart wannabes to do their marketing?
