Oh, dear. We’ve all been there: you’re playing your favorite game online, and then WHAM-O~! you lose your Internet connection. The usual course of action is to mutter “Gosh darn it” to your self, then go about your business. An unusual course of action is to grab a knife, then stab a random person walking in the street. Apparently that has happened, yes.

An 18-year-old kid was playing StarCraft when his Internet connection dropped out. Then, in a fit of rage, he grabbed a knife, then ran out onto the street, where a 15-year-old girl was walking home from a party. You see where this is going.

Yes, the 18-year-old stabbed the 15-year-old. You know, because he was angry that his Internet connection dropped.

Thankfully, the girl is about as good as can be expected, with none of the injuries being life-threatening.

Oh, all of this went down in Sweden. I probably should have mentioned that in the beginning.

What’s going to happen to the crazy kid? He’s been sentenced to psychiatric care, and prosecutors are looking to charge him with attempted murder.

Again, friends, when your Internet connection dies, your best course of action is just to curse up a storm, and not bring physical violence onto random, innocent people.

  • My at&t modem needs to be reset several times a day. I can always tell when it drops out while the wife is doing her homework, because she reacts to it with a pitch-perfect wookie howl. Shes awesome.

    • I had a similar issue with my internet connection dropping several times a day, for the last year or so, Ugh!. I had to un-plug / plug in my cable modem to re-establish a connection. I’ve googled eveything I could think of and thought it was flaky hardware and did all the driver updates too. It turned out to be that my TV was leaking voltage out of the tuner through the coax to the cable splitter. My cable modem was on this splitter which didn’t like this voltage – causing the drops! So the solution, thanks to a Charter cable tech who figured this all out, was split the incoming cable in two, one to the cable modem and the other to a multi GROUNDED splitter for the TV’s. Since this real fix, I haven’t had one drop! (Knock on wood) OK, my TV is old but the Charter guy said he’s seen new flat screens leak too.

  • An 18 year old is not a kid

    • How many 18 year olds do you know? They are still children. Legally being an adult does not necessitate acting like one.

    • I tend to call anyone my age (23) or younger a kid. Just a habit.

Plus, what Kyle said. You can be 18 and be a mature adult (or thereabouts), or you can be 18 and be a total dorkwad.

    • WTF? I mean really, why do you care that he is called a kid? he stabbed a girl just because he is a pathetic lifeless loser, I wouldn’t expect someone to make a point that he isnt a kid, plus he isnt a adult:P he is a teenager still, anyway this kid should be killed or something, if you are going to be a complete moron over something as small as your net going then you should not be allowed to live or at least see any other human ever again.

  • Why am I picturing the Swedish Chef after just crawling out of the Pet Cemetery?

  • put the sob in for good >: /

  • He should be stabbed back, just to wake him up from his synth life.

  • Question is did he scream zerg rush in the process

See, he didn’t mean to stab the 14 year old girl. It’s just that he got lag and the last thing he pressed was “forward and attack”……

  • he probably would have done more but required additional pylons

  • What a weirdo. I guess theres not only advantages to have some of the most stable internet in the world then. People are so used to it here so they freak out totally every time it go down. Even on the subway underground… :)

  • “…and prosecutors are looking to charge him with attempted murder.”

They are looking to charge him? What the hell do they have to look at anything. This IS attempted murder…DUH.

  • Well this is Sweden, we actually try to forgive people a little bit for their wrong-doings :P but yes, with barely one internet drop per year you tend to go crazy when it actually happens :S

    • Um…you make a habit of forgiving psychos who go out and stab random people because their internet dropped? I’ve always wanted to travel the world, but I’m just gonna go ahead and make a mental note to avoid Sweden.

      • Ditto..no place that defends a chick stabbing cyber maniac sounds like abgood vacation spot. Heaven forbid there is a power outage while visiting… There would be cyber zombies coming out of the woodworks stabbing everything that moves! Sounds like a good movie idea!

        • They were looking to do it. They failed. They decided that he didn’t leave the house with the intent to kill her and he got manslaughter instead.

  • What kind of noob rushes with a single zealot?

  • My question is does Sweeden have a SC league or team? Was he training for any of that or was he just playing casuals?

I’m sure any of that’s stressful and this story sounds crazy when you say “a kid lost his internet connection for a video game and stabbed some one”. But if you keep in mind that SC is a national sport in some places and REALLY big period, this isn’t that far fetched. How often do things like this happen with athletic sports?

I’m not trying to justify, I’m just saying SC isn’t just a video game.

    • But if a Football (American) player misses a punt or pass or whatever. It’s not acceptable to go into the stands and stab a random onlooker. It’s not even acceptable to stab an opposing player who intercepted the pass. Regardless of the severity of the situation it is just completely wrong to just attack someone. Basic humanity is just the ability to curb your self enough to not just go off stabbing or hurting other people.

  • Ya “its not just a video game.” Whada guy.

  • Squid,I hate to be the one to breeak it to you.But SC is exactly that.Just a video game.Nothing more.
