Sony may be coming out with a motion controller of its own, but that’s apparently not soon enough for accessory maker Blaze, which will be putting one out before that. And this one is so familiar to the Wiimote that I’m wondering how long the knockoff is going to stay on the market.
It “thrusts the PS3 gamer into the very heart of the action,” which sounds a bit like it’s thrusting into your heart — let that be a lesson for PR people who write in violent metaphor. And it’s also “ergonomically designed from the ground up,” by which they apparently mean “ergonomically designed from a picture of a Wiimote.” I’d prefer not to see what kind of tacked-on functionality this thing can possibly provide.
At any rate, I wish them the best of luck. Actually, no… no, I don’t.

Well at least it doesn’t look EXACTLY like a Wiimote, there is no button where the A button was! Wait, never mind. It has an analog stick… And an d-pad right above it… And game buttons at the bottom…
So, who’s up for evolving a third hand to be able to use this thing comfortably? Anyone? Just me? *#& it, then. I’ll just go play some good ol’ N64. Oh, wait. Shit.
I’d rather have this on my PS3 than have a Wii.
May be a shocker to some wii folks but PS3 has had motion control and motion controlled games from Day 1.
I would rather have the new motion wands coming out for PS3 in March than this thing though.. They will provide better motion controls than any other console can provide currently or in the near future.
PS3 uses six-axis, which isn’t quite the same as the wiimote’s motion sensing, but is seemingly close enough. As a person who owns both a Wii and a PS3, I can honestly say the biggest selling point these game consoles should be focusing on isn’t hardware, but software. I actually felt embarrassed to be a human after PS3 sales boomed when Sony sold us a smaller version of the exact same thing.
PS3 uses six-axis as just a gimmick; something they could scrap up to try to combat the Wii’s “innovative” use of motion control. Wii, a console that relies entirely on being motion sensing, dissolves into mostly ‘point and click’ style games, with only few rays of hope shining out of the failure cloud. Xbox missed this race by releasing their console a year early, red ring filled and destroying game discs.
Honestly, I don’t care that the PS3 is now getting a ‘motion wand’ as you call it, I’m still waiting for either console to take advantage of the hardware they currently have.
Xbox fanboys are probably crying tears of joy at Natal just because it’s something others have that the 360 didn’t. If the 360 actually releases a bevvy of games that USE Natal more then just “dotting the i’s with hearts”, then Microsoft will have just achieved something Sony and Nintendo failed at from the start, and I may consider buying a 360.
The ps3 sold really well not because of the slim revision but because of that 100$ price cut. Even when the slim wasn’t out yet and the old models were being sold for 300 the PS3 got a huge boost in demand and sales. It shows that most people wanted a ps3, but didn’t have enough money to pay for the price premium.
