Father-son projects are quite the American tradition. Everything from pine-box derby racers, to bike repairs, to experimental aircraft it seems. Wait what?
The Denver Channel reports that 12:35 pm MDT today, authorities were tracking a 6-year-old boy at about 8,000 feet over Fort Collins, Colorado. Apparently the boy and his father had been building a “flying saucer covered in foil and filled with helium” for quite a while now.
UPDATE: The boy’s family was actually on Wife Swap. YouTube video added after the jump.
We’re all hoping the little guy gets down safe.
UPDATE: There is no child in the balloon. At about 4:00 PM MDT, the county sheriff announced the boy was found hiding in the attic of his home. The cover-up official story is the boy was unable to be found after the ballon lifted off, leading everyone to assume he was on board. The black mass in the photo is believed to have been a box of batteries.
“We anticipate criminal charges will be filed sometime in the near future,” Larimer County Sheriff Jim Alderden told CNN.

Holy crap, that’s awesome… ya know, as long as he doesn’t die or anything.
agree but there is 1% chance that he is alive
Hope he is fine: the web is blowing up on this news: http://bit.ly/38gx44
radio is reporting that kid was in his house.
I wonder if it’s possible to drop skydivers to grab it.
best permalink ever.
+1
WTF
They think he might have fallen out – if he is still in there, this is not going to land softly.
this is not cool
I wonder if he was in there. This is a family that volunteered to be on Wife Swap.

Oh my Ghod. Lets up they get that balloon down safely. His parents must be frantic.
At first I thought it was a hoax but this is very scary.
Poor child.
I don’t think the parents are that frantic, the boy, by his own words, isn’t likely shaken.
http://bit.ly/3oo7y the Heene boys rap about not being “pussified” including poor little Falcon.
Its a trip, If you didn’t happen to see the Wife Swap show, this video will give you a quick summary of what life with the Heene family is like.
The best school project ever… :-)
rip he has to be dead
He’s down safely now.
And #saveballoonboy is trending on Twitter.
He’s got virtually every single trending topic.
No child?
Where did he go?
If the boy is not in the baloon then where is he?
look here for info on ballon boy

Sans Falcon
Either he never got in and this is all crap or he fell out a long time ago.
Little Boy FOUND in local well! Hoax. 15 minutes of fame and 15 months probation for FAA violations for daddy.
If there WERE another apparatus attached, along with the weight of a 6yr child, that thing could not have become airborne.
you have to see this – http://bit.ly/2lRhyl Video made with Falcon Heene and his 2 brothers. “not pussified”
funny but horrible
That is awesome.
His mom: “How many times I told you not to make helium ballons and fly 8000 feet in the air? Now go to your room!”
why is this on techcrunch?
technically its on crunchgear.
OMG! This was the family of storm chasers that were on the Wife Swap TV show that I saw recently.
When I heard the wife’s name and that they were “storm chasers” it clicked for me.
How horrible. They had swapped with a family of highly safety conscious people who tried to teach the Heene’s not to take so many chances and to keep their children safer. How ironic that is :-(
You are right – here is a write up.

I hope the little guy is O.K.
that n the fact it says they were in wife swap in the article.
This can not end well.
Bad headline. Denver and Fort Collins are 60+ miles apart.
No one cares.
And this thing has been in the air for 2+ hours, which means it has probably traveled more than 60 miles.

just look at the size of it. that was never able to carry anything. not even a kilo of weigth. there is no boy and was no boy in the balloon. he sits under his bed.
Where the hell is the father to give information on the construction of this thing? It would answer a lot of problems.
This is why I don’t watch news :-/
Interesting real-time search comp between Google and Bing. Try “where is boy in colorado balloon?”…lots in Google, nothing in Bing.
don’t trust msn just its e-mail service
Somethings not adding up, everything on the news is saying that the younger brother told on the older brother (Falcon) who was trapped inside. However, Falcon is the youngest child in the family. Lolwat
The boy has been identified as Falcon Heene, son of Richard and Mayumi Heene of Ft. Collins, Colo.
Richard Heene is a storm chaser and scientist. The couple twice appeared on the ABC show “Wife Swap.”
Here is a little video intro to the family?

Not surprising that things don’t add up.
HA! If you happened to see the wife swap episodes, you get it. A few screws loose, and I would bet, this was just a stunt to be back in the spotlight.

He’s obviously under the bed.
This is a gov’t cover up. The first live images showed what looked to be a real ufo with swift and fast movements….suddenly they cut into a computer made image this other thing and then created a story about a boy trapped. Within .0005 seconds, they had a chopper with 360 degree images of a balloon, 60 miles away (remember, this was live). Then the reporter looks down onto the paper and says, we are now seeing a taped video. Suddenly, this fast object was going 30 mph and just happen to land in a rural area close to a military base……I think it was called Fort Cover Up.
by the way, this photo is of rhianna (the singer) in my profile because she’s pretty like that.
WTF cares, retard

i don’t even know
Is that little guy really in that balloon to begin with? Like omg!
I blame Pixar! Inspiring children to go fly away in balloons.
Indeed, maybe it’s an advertising stunt!
Me 2 did you see “up”
Why do I think this is a publicity stunt….
What does the strange your tube music video have to do with this?
It seems that he was hiding out in the family’s garage the whole time.
All that’s left now, is to determine weather or not the parents were in on the whole thing.
They found the little shit hiding in a box, at home.
Balloon boy found at home! DAMN IT!
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/33330516/ns/us_news-life/
I heard on the way home that the boy was found at home safe. The media was duped and led on a chase that didn’t go anywhere.
It wouldn’t surprise me if this actually was a hoax to give the father some media attention. The fact that the lad was seen being taken near to a hurricane makes me think that the parents actually have no thought for themselves or their children. I hope that the police have a full investigation into the activities of the parents.
funny thing I saw;
MSN’s story doesn’t match Yahoo’s. MSN says he was in the attic. Yahoo! says he was in the garage.
Wut?
he was in an area above the garage “attic” per-say
like on the rafters of the garage
why is this on crunchgear?
I would suggest CNN and Fox news go and f&*^k themselves. If this shit is the news number one than … why this shit on techcrunch anyway?
Pussified clip is just pure class.
What a jerk
