It wasn’t too long ago that hackers were successful loading custom firmware onto Texas Instruments calculators. This hasn’t been sitting well with TI, who have been sending legal threats to the plucky hackers. I’m not surprised, are you?
The EFF is getting in on the action, claiming that TI’s threats are baseless.
TI-83+ calculators are going for less then $50 on eBay. They’ve been out for over a decade. If they’re not doing what their owners want them to do, maybe TI should look at how to provide continued value to their customers.

This is nothing new, i was playing tetris (and other things) on my ti-85 back in 2000. You could even link with another calculator to play against someone.
Custom firmware, Joe. That’s the new part.
Haxors can now build whole new operating systems for the calcs, not just tetris.
Man, this is old news. We were playing games on my TI-85 back in 1997. Maybe what TI need is an app store where people can d/l apps =)
Still have mine from high school.
My TI-85 was stolen, but i was just solving some maths on my TI-86 a few moments ago… No games on it these days though.
I wish TI would follow other companies in making new devices that can do more things than are really necessary. Maybe put an mp3 player or web browser on a graphing calculator. I’m completely kidding, but really it would be pretty cool.
