Gadzooks, a new MacBook! Yup, Apple has re-designed the entry level MacBook, and it’s now made of “rugged polycarbonate that withstands the rough and tumble of everyday life.” LED backlit, too.
Other things to get excited about, if you’re the type of person who gets excited over laptops:
• Unibody design, like the MacBook Pro
• 13-inch LED backlit display
• Runs on an Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.6GHz
• 2GB of RAM
• 250GB HDD
• SuperDrive (people still burn discs?)
• Glass touchpad, multi-gesture, etc.
• It’s environmentally friendly
I think that’s it. Oh, right, $999, available today. Yes, today. Go ahead, go to your local Apple Store, they should have ‘em in stock. (And sorry if this seems rushed, it was written in approximately 90 seconds.)

10 more seconds and you would have got the processor specs right. 2.26GHz
pahaha
Cheaper price point would make this much more appealing, even if some of the specs were cut down. As it is though, the 13 MBP is superior even at the greater cost.
This should be cheaper even with these specs. This is a $600-$700 13″ plastic notebook.
I still burn discs, for two reasons.
1) My wife likes mix CDs, and her car has no sort of aux-input for an MP3 player. Also, there’s too much FM here (Denver) for FM transmitters to find a good, clear swath. And if you know of one that CAN get a clear & reliable signal through, and doesn’t cost $100, please let me know about it.
2) Photo backups, onto dual-layer DVDs. I do it once per year, and store them at my parents house, a few miles away. This is essentially the only non-replaceable data in my home.
@TJ bullshit, I drive denver all the time, I can find some clear shit to listen to my ipod… Griffin iTrip rocks my fucking shocks off even while in Denver & Boulder.
Why do you say the mbp is better? I mean I gues the aluminum is worth $200 but the white does a better hardrive. Also usb sd readers dont cost much. And I dont use fire wire so what ever. But it does need more usbs. But the pro only has 2 as well. So im going to get the white this holiday season
ired had an interesting article on comment moderation techniques in last month’s issue. I wish more forums, including NYTimes and the WashingtonPost would use these:
