Clearly this woman hasn’t tried installing Windows 7…
Around the 3:00 mark she claimed Windows 7 is difficult to install. It is leaps and bounds easier to install than XP/Vista, and in my personal experience, just as a easy to install as OS X.
But yes, I will concede if you’re someone of the techpertise level as a CNN reporter, you’re going to have a hell of time installing Windows 7, and an even more difficult time opening the box.
I’ve always thought the logical business move for Apple would be to create an OS that runs on Intel PCs, effectively replacing windows and selling that as a replacement package. The code must be essentially written – would sell itself…

The pain and effort involved in supporting infinite variations of hardware and combinations of hardware simply wouldn’t be worth it. Besides, Apple is a hardware company and if they can’t make the clone business make financial sense, then I doubt they’re going to make supporting some random guy installing OS X on an E-Machine he bought at Wal-mart 3 years ago make sense.
Yes, you are the only one that thinks it’s a huge idea. The OS is one of the main reasons – in fact probably the primary reason – why Apple can get twice the margins on it’s PCs compared to every other PC maker. That and supporting tens of thousands of different bits of hardware – and copping the bad press when it doesn’t like Vista and printer drivers – are two very good reasons why you don’t work for Apple ;)

Its hard to install ANY operating system, the “NERD” that they interviewed is from the Geek Squad service which is underpaid and under trained.

From what I understand. To update your computer to windows 7 is an extreme pain in the a#3! You cant just put the cd in and let it update. Its so complicated I forget how you have to put it in.
Except it isn’t with Windows Easy Transfer.
Installed 7 on about 10 relatively new computers since the beta release and i have yet to install a driver.. i would love to see how apple OS would handle thousands of different pc configurations as opposed to their dull 8 differentpc or so line up…

After this sh** Vista was shoveled down our throats (I have it only because the new laptop came with it – awful) Microsoft has the OBLIGATION and DUTY and F*&K**G decency to give this next O/S (whatever the name) for FREE . FREE !!

i saw this yesterday during the show and laughed. i mean seriousily kyra phillips or whatever her name is and the lady who does all their wall street sx reporting were hilarious. wanted to punch my tv or barf. they don’t understand anything but it must be nice to be able to read information and then regurtitate it like it’s being forced out of your behind. ended up changing the channel. aside from that it was good to see tc on tv.
