$30: Perfect-for-Google-navigation Motorola Droid car dock

ddock

The Motorola Droid, on Verizon Wireless, is, by all accounts, pretty OK. That’s fair to say, no? Yes, I believe it is. What’s lame, though totally to be expected, is that it’ll cost you $30 for a car kit. And you’d want said car kit in order to make that Google navigation application really fly.

The car kit places your Droid on your car’s dashboard; the Droid then enters a special car mode, which presents a simplified user interface. From here, you’d be able to slap on your Droid and let the it take you to the “varrazanne Bridge” in New York.

There’s also a second such dock, one that’s meant for your bedside. It turns your Droid into a grossly overpowered alarm clock. Well, it’s also for viewing movies and whatnot, but I’d rather eat glass than watch a movie on a phone.

And sorry the photo is rubbish, but I couldn’t find a higher-res one.

  • $30 seems reasonable compared to plastic film screen protectors for my iPhone at the Apple Store running $20-$30. Now THAT is a rip!

  • honestly i was thinking how reasonably prices those docks were, and that if apple or microsoft was makign them they’d probably be a buck each

  • So. $120 TomTom iPhone mount or $30 Droid mount? $100 iPhone GPS app or free Google GPS app?

Yeah. I want the Droid. A lot.

  • Pretty reasonable? That phone is pretty awesome. Why does everyone on crunch gear bash verizon CONSTANTLY. When with personal experience they are the best cellular company in this country hands down. I’m not saying they’re phones have been lame or someone has had one or two bad experiences. But they really do have the best priced plans and the best coverage. I’d rather get a pretty cool phone with amazing coverage, good customer service, and reasonably priced plans. Then go with other company’s who grossly over charged for every single plan and phone *coughAT&Tcough*

    Sorry cold and flu season.

  • Have an iphone and think the price is more then reasonable and can’t wait to check this thing out. Turned off by the negative and most likely bias view of the author. He sounds bitter lol

  • When is google going to take over this android market and run it? I really would love to see google come out out with a better design apps/website to run the android market…………

  • According to Moto site it also comes with car charger. So reall this isn’t a bad deal at all.

  • I bought the car mount through Verizon and no charger.

There is one big flaw with both docks, you cannot put any covers on your phone and fit them in the docks

  • The car dock is a no brainer, but the multimedia dock… In a different economy when I had a little more disposable money I’d be all for it. I use my cell phone as my alarm clock just about every day, so it’d be super worth it, but I don’t have the money these days especially, when I’m buying a $200 phone, another $30 for a car dock, and getting a $30/month data plan.

Not to mention the magnets thing.

  • $30 gets you either a car dock (which puts the phone in car mode) and a rapid car charger, or it also gets you the media dock (which puts the phone into alarm/media mode) and comes with a spare Micro-USB and AC/USB Adapter… and both stations charge the phone when it’s docked.

There’s 4 kinds of people in this world: People who use droids, people who want to use droids but can’t afford them or verizon, people who use iphones and are too bitter to submit to the droid and convert, or those who are just out of the loop completely.
