Take this rumor like you would any other Internet rumor. You never know though, some of this info is new and might be true. A French website, Logic-Sunrise, is reporting from a very reliable source within the bowels of Nintendo that an update is played for 2010 and it’s going to be a big one. Well, big for Nintendo and on par with the current offerings from Sony and Microsoft, that is.
Logic-Sunrise translated by Google,
- The console will carry a Blu-Ray, the primary function is to discourage piracy.
- It must therefore bear display 720P and 1080P, both for broadcasting video Blu-Ray for games.
- A release date for 2010 is planned.
- The output will be worldwide, orchestrated the same day in all countries.
- A bid to take over your Wii first generation is planned. (All your bases are belong to us?)
Everyone probably agrees that the Wii is past its prime technology-wise. Hell, it was sort out of date when it was released, but that hasn’t stopped it from winning the console war. Maybe the recent Wii price drop shows that an update isn’t that far off.
[thanks for the tip, Jon]

NOOOO! Leave the Wii alone! It’s fine as it is as a party rig.
i love the wii so dont take this personally but the wii does need an upgrade. it has the worst graphics of the 3(xbox360, ps3, and the wii) and its the only 1 that doesn’t let you watch movies.
I want to play Super Smash Brothers in HD!!!!!!!!!!!
Does it matter, nearly none of the games outside of first party are worth playing. Also one of the few games that actually was worth playing Madworld didn’t make any money
the reason the third party games are shit is because no developer wants to redo a game they’ve made for 360/ps3 from the ground up to be able to function on the wii, and even because most of the time, the wii just can’t handle it, but if this rumor is true, and the wii is brought up to par with the other two, that’s bound to change. the multiplatform games will probably span all three instead of just ps3 and 360
i am all for this. this is what the wii should have been in the first place.
I waited in the freezing cold for 8 hours on launch day and looking back I wonder why. I finished maybe 3 games. I got zelda on launch I still haven’t bothered to finish it. Mario galaxy I got for xmas last year (or was it the year before?) is still unopened. I kick myself for not unloading it on ebay for $1000 when I had the chance. I really just think Nintendo failed me. They sold a lot of systems but in the end ask the average owner how much they play it. My guess would be that 60% haven’t turned it on in a month. Mine probably 3. I’ll hold out for PS4 or Xbox 720 I play them and their better games far more often. It’s to bad the Wii wowed me then bored me.
Wow – you are really a moron. The Wii “wowed you then bored you” because YOU were too lazy to even OPEN Super Mario Galaxy? That was an amazing game through and through, but you couldn’t be bothered to, ya know, even open the thing up and play it. Makes sense….
It’s not YOU who failed as a gamer, no.
Nintendo failed YOU.
Right.
Metroid Prime 3, Zelda, Mario Galaxy, Smash Bros Brawl, Wii Sports, amazing WiiWare games like World of Goo, there are many, many worthwhile and very fun experiences on the Wii.
The first step is removing your head from your rear and OPENING THEM IN THE FIRST PLACE.
loves how sony will be getting a nice little royalty each time a wii 2 is sold w/the bluray and all (if bluray is added)
i will NOT be getting this. i already have bluray in my ps3 and waggle in my wii.
i have a hard time believing a wii hd would sell that well since sony and microsoft are releasing their motion based controllers/schemes in 2010 and already do highdef and have good games.
then again, the wii did sell like hotcakes.
You do know Sony isn’t the only one that ones Blu-Ray. Around eight other companies made and own it and Sony wasn’t even a big contributor. Sony amazed me in how they made everyone believe that it’s all theres.
Well, that’s a small start. They’re going to have to add a lot more than that to get people interested again though.
According to Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo_video_game_consoles#Wii_2
i can’t believe the next generation Wii will use a Cell processor, like the Playstation 3.
It better be compatible with Gamecube, Wii, and Wii2 games!
HI THERE CAN NOT WAIT TOO SEE NINTENDOS WII SHOP 2 AND THE BLUE RAY GAMES TOO WOW DUBBLE THE FUN AS WII 1 CAME OUT I LIKE THE WII SHOP AND THE DSI SHOP MY WII APPS AND GAMES AVERAGE 100 TOO 200 BLOCKS OF MEMORY AND TOMAOROW I WILL BE BUYING MORE WII DSI POINTS MAY BE CONDUIT 2 WILL COME OUT FOR WII 2
i was sadly upset at the wii 1 video capabiltys i love the wii i love nintindo i pray that there next verision can strem all on line videos apps all one capiblitys that a pc/mac would have i love being able to sit on my couch and view the WWW i sell cable so io hate cable and satilite with a passin now days ther enough content on the web we do not need them ay longer
I dont think the world needs an updated Wii right now… the Wii is basically an upgraded GameCube and there was already 2 versions of the Wii (the 2008 had some minor hardware updates). I like the Wii and can understand the need for Blu-Ray and 1080p, but I think that more should go into it than just that.
I would also hope backwards compatibility would be retained or emulated.
As far as piracy? Its already possible to rip Blu-Ray movies, so I’ve heard. The only real way to prevent piracy is to pull out a page from Sony, use special burners to burn the discs backwards (outside to inside) and with special bits that only a Wii Blu-Ray drive can read.
I personally think that Wii is great in its own right by being unique from other consoles, although I would love to see all the games in HD quality and play great games like Call of Duty World at War or Call of Duty Modern Warfare Reflex Edition looking as great as their PS3 or XBOX 360 counterparts, I mean the Gamecube was more powerful than PS2 when it came out and almost as powerful as XBOX so why couldn’t Wii be as powerful or even more powerful than XBOX 360 or PS3? People would still have bought it, maybe not in such great numbers but still, especially that you don’t need to pay a damn subscription to play online games either! in many ways wii 2 could be superior, and if it does play both gamecube, wii and wii2 games then its gonna really kick ass, seriously that will make it best console ever! Imagine it having all the media support and still having sleek looks <3
