Steve Jobs would be proud of this Ikea hack

Ikea hack - 2

I’m a sucker for clever desks and organization objects.  Sometimes you don’t need a massive Pottery Barn desk to email your parents pics of the kids. All you need is a place to sit and two little shelves from Ikea. (and some handyman skills)

There are two parts to this creation. First, the iMac shelf is the Ludvig Router/ Modem wall cabinet. This gives you a little storage spot and a place to hid extra cables nonsense. Then the keyboard and mouse tray is the Ludvig Laptop shelf/ charging station. Add the two together and you get this wonderfully simple and elegant computer workstation.

  • This is the most uncomfortable thing I’ve ever seen.

  • I agree with Ciprian – that looks like an ergonomics nightmare. And where in hell do your knees go when you’re sitting on that ridiculous stool?

I don’t think Steve Jobs would be proud of this at all.

  • How is buying 2 Ikea products, and installing them as designed, a “hack”?

  • I’m in full agreement with everyone on this one!
    That looks awful.

Forget about fingerprints on that glossy display, I’d fear NOSEprints! Windex, anyone?!

If I were to setup an iMac like that, I’d ditch the base and get an articulated wall mounted arm with a VESA mount.

  • Actually this looks perfect for people who hold their book or newspaper with their arms held higher than their shoulders.

    Yeah, that’s right: exactly nobody.

  • Steve Jobs would not be proud of this. He is never proud of anything he did not personally “discover”.

Besides, it is at the perfect level for the new high glare screen to serve as a mirror.

  • I also am not entranced by the looks, but this is perfect for Ikea minimalism – I have not bought anything from Ikea in about 15 years.

I would consider using these in my office for placing computers in my exam rooms,

  • 1 : I don’t know about the guy who made it, but most people I know do have knees*

2 : where do you put the friggin’ keyboard? on your knees? (If you happen to have a pair of it)

3 : Also, the foot of the imac (that metal thingie) is designed so you can put the keyboard there when you don’t use it, if ever.

4 : Huh, what “extra cable nonsense”? With a wireless keyboard an mouse, (which it seems to be on the photo), there’s a total of 1 (one) cable on the imac. Now, if you were to use a printer, or a hard drive, there would be extra cables, but there’s no room here for peripherals.

    5 : There’s a window in front of a mirror-glass screen. God.

6 : There’s only room for a single user at a time, so you won’t use that great shiny screen for watching movies and pictures with the family.

I don’t think this can been used in this configuration for longer than the boot sequence.

    * (and feet below their knees)
