If you’ve installed OS X onto laptop with an Intel Atom processor, do not update your version of Snow Leopard until further notice. Rumor has it that Apple has removed Atom support from 10.6.2. This means your Hackintosh will fail unless you mess around with the kernel.
Here are Atom users future options…
A) Stay with Leopard 10.5.8 (10.5.9 might have the same effect as 10.6.2)
B) Stay with Snow Leopard 10.6.1
C) Upgrade to 10.6.2 and use either the stock 10.0.0 kernel or use modded Snow kernels
The thinking is either that Apple is trying to stamp out Hackintoshes wholesale or they’re preparing a new update for an Atom-powered device down the line.

you ever wonder why Mac is having such a crap about hackintoshes (machines capable of running any os) when they support running windows in parallels/vmware/wine/boot camp, etc.? kinda of hypocritical, no?
Apple has to do it that way. It’s a business approach. Less people would opt to buy apple products if they can run it on their home built hardware. It’s the reason why they have the power to set prices. Apple would lose a lot of revenue if it released osx openly to home brewed x64/x86. I love both their o/s and sleek hardware, but if I needed the mac pro processing power, I would rather build an i7! ;)
that was rhetorical. sorry.
But to play devils advocate, many other companies make money from multiple business models and have open designs. i.e. Honda, Garmin, M$oft (yes M$oft), Nokia, Fujitsu, Sony, etc. etc.
