Although previously targeted for launch on October 22nd with a price tag of $500, it looks like Archos’ 9-inch tablet is just now available for pre-order on the company’s web site and priced at $550.
Official specs (according to the product page) include:
- 8.9″ screen
- Windows 7 Starter Edition
- WiFi and Bluetooth
- Extremely light and thin, .67″ and 29 ounces
- HD Video: Watch video in 1080p (H264HP 1080p)
- Internet: Experience the full internet on a 8.9″ screen
- Edit and create documents with the QWERTY virtual keyboard
- Forward facing 1.3MP web cam for video conferencing
- Battery Life: 5hr (WiFi Bluetooth off, mini backlight)
There’s a topic over in the ArchosFans.com forum with some loose shipment information being bandied about that might be worth keeping an eye on if you’re waiting for yours.
the way they have all those windows open and scattered around makes that 9 inch screen look huge
I was thinking the same thing that resolution has to be dang high on that little guy. The only thing I didn’t like was that Wifi and Blue Tooth off gets you 5 hrs but whats the life with Wifi on?

Why isn’t there a Microsoft Windows 7 Touchscreen OS ? Trying to use regualar Win7 on a device like this will only bring frustrated users.

The only thing that’s keeping me from buying this is that extra $50 cost. I wanted to so buy this. Arrrgggh you Archos!!!!!
There have been scattered reports from users in the UK who have already received their devices that there are build and battery issues already.
I jumped when the pre-order became available on archos.com, which was a mistake. Once I read the reports of problems I tried to cancel my order, which according to archos employees is “impossible” even though the ship date is 2-3 weeks away…
I suggest you wait to order until more people receive theirs and report back.
is so funny that on their website it sez the tablet 9 can play HD it makes no sense that a 1.3ghz pc could handle HD and you all know archos are known to lie about features and capabilities …to play mp4 mpgs and mov on their last droid tablet you have to buy them… but the device of 16 gs cost 300 dollars theres short cuts of what it can do but when you press it sez buy whatever youre pressing …on their web site it sez it can handle any video but its not true…that the battery last 4 or 6 hours playing video…lie….that it could play HD video…lie…that they have good customer service…we all know thats a lie …all they do is e mail their phone number so you call and wait wait wait and get tired of trying so why are you buying from a company that gonna treat you like crap after you buy their crap? they can stick their slow pc and service in their french ass i tried to fix my archos 5 headphone jack and all they do is give their phone number but noone answer …
