BlackSn00000w is coming down, on me… Geohot, creator of the original iPhone unlock, has crack the 05.11.07 baseband to enable tethering, jailbreak for 3.1.2, and complete SIM unlock of the 3GS. This means you can use your iPhone on any GSM network.
To unlock:
1. First jailbreak your phone with BlackRa1n and then run the BlackRa1n app on the iPhone.
2. Later today you’ll see blacksn0w (it will appear in the BlackRa1n app). This app will unlock the phone completely.
3. Profit!
The jailbreak works under Windows and OS X. The unlock only works for 3GS models.

I just tried it on my 3gs and works flawlessly….
one warning though; once you unlock, dont install Winterboard (current Version), it will kill the Wi-Fi capability of the iphone. I just confirmed cause once I uninstalled winterboard the wi-fi came back.

I have just liberated (unlocked) my 32GB 3GS iphone & tested it with three different SIM cards, which previously would not work with the above phone,NOW they do. I can’t believe how easy the whole process was. Geohot you are a King amongst men – WELL DONE & THANKS A LOT.

Here is a question that had been asked before…I hope not but anyways:
I have a brand new iPhone 3GS Version 3.1.2 (7D11) Modem Firmware 05.11.07
Will the above work on this or will it damage it to the point of no return? Being that I paid a lot of money so that I didn’t have to be on any contract whatsoever, I need to know if this is going to permanently damage it or will it make it work?
Now will this just Jailbrake it or do both Jailbrake it and Unlock it?
