Wii can’t ‘deliver the cinematic experience’ needed for Modern Warfare 2

Modern_Warfare_2Poor Wii owners (I’m one of them). There will be no Modern Warfare 2 for us. In a recent interview, Infinity Ward’s Robert Bowling explained that the Wii’s relatively underpowered innards in comparison to the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 make it impossible to replicate “the cinematic experience” across all platforms.

“If we felt like we could deliver the cinematic experience we were going for on other platforms, then we would gladly move to that platform. Right now, we don’t think the Wii can deliver the exact experience that we’re doing. We like to be very equal across all platforms, and if it’s not equal then we won’t do it,” said Bowling.

Oh I see how it is. Just because there’s no HD and a whole lot more arm-flailing, it’s not the same? Sigh. It’s actually not the same. He’s right.

At least we’ll have Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Reflex Edition on the Wii the same day as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 comes out on all the other systems. It’s probably just as good as the new game, right? Except older and less cinematic? And not as good?

  • Another reason why I don’t own the wii console. Though, it’d probably work out good for my kids.

  • The Wii is fun but I dont think it will ever be suited to this sort of game. The way consoles are going you need one of each to get an all round experience. The xBox is more shoot em up console whilst the Wii will specialise in acitities. Much prefer the xBox for its game quality.

  • Ah, Well. Wii can deliver a cinematic experience if effort was put in. Zelda was Cinematic to me in places, and A few other titles.

Also, the new Red steel 2 is coming out and it will have Infinity ward Kicking themselves in the arse for not releasing it.

Also, I bet there are some back deals between Developers, Microsoft, and Sony to help curb Steam train that is the WII. Since both Sony and Microsoft are coming out with “WII” like controls, they want to try and get rid of their main competition.

I own all systems and Yes, I’d rather play on 360 then any of them, But I Loved how Conduit controlled on the Wii and Would think it would be awesome For Modern warfare 2.

Either way that is my opinion. Visuals are only Part of the Cinematic experience. More important then Visuals is Story and Voice acting, which can be done on the WII. Infinity ward not wanting to create that experience at the expense of some visuals tells me they put less effort in Story and voice acting, Which Is what I like more then anything (Even game-play)

  • Let the Wii die. Xbox or PS3 and give them motion controllers.

  • well i really wish they would make MW2 for wii but (infinity ward: hint, hint, weank, weenk, nudge, nudge)
so i shall become obsest with reflex

  • I think a lot of games don’t work too well on the Wii for the exact same reason. I actually read somewhere that Wii sales are really starting to drop. Either just about everyone has a Wii or people are realizing there isn’t much to them. You don’t have to be a serious game to go for PS3 or Xsux, I think a lot of casual gamers can see that these two systems are better then the Wii.

Oddly enough, I think a Wii style controller for this type of game might be really interesting.

  • no i want this 2 come 2 wii!
    aw well
then i shall indeed in joy MW REFLEX and W@W.
    so infinty ward please reconsider!
    (just like reflex)

  • Are the Wii bashers done yet? Good.

Anyways, Infinity Ward made similar comments about the Wii not being able to handle COD, and yet Treyarch managed to keep World at War’s campaign in tact while the multiplayer remains one of the most popular online shooters on the platform. Now Treyarch is doing what Infinity Ward was too lazy to do and is bringing Modern Warfare to the Wii as well.

Infinity Ward may be hardware snobs, but Activision follows the money. WaW sold over a million copies on Wii, and that was the watered down version. I’ve read forum posts where many Modern Warfare owners are planning on getting the Wii version when released, because the motion controls can make that much of a difference to the gameplay experience. If it does sell well, and IW still has no plans to support the Wii, Activision may decide to stop supporting IW and let Treyarch handle the series from now on!

  • who gives a shit bout the camaign just put online multiplayer [wii]

  • Who’s to blame? Not Infinity Ward. The Wii is great but was not created for high end games. It’s a total different focus, btw the reason for it’s success and leadership.

  • I want Modern Warfare 2 for my Cisco phone!!! What do you mean it cant handle the graphics and doesn’t use the common controls? I dont care that even if they did, it would be a completely different experience. Thats BS, someone owns me something!

Wait a second, I’m a rational person. That means that I should be able to understand simple concepts. I guess I understand that the Wii gives me a completely different experience by using a completely different method of interacting with it.

I think that flailing my arms around (IMHO, like a tool) isn’t the best way to control a person in a 3D, fast paced, and high precision environment. For the record, when Red Steel came out nobody really liked it. After they figured out that it was going to be one of their only FPS games they changed their minds.
